Mercedes emitting K band

Has anyone encountered this yet?

They apparently have some sort of k band collision avoidance system that emits a weak k band signal. I was driving next to a mercedes about a month ago and he was clearly the culprit behind the signal. It lasted the whole time he was close to me.

Sighs, just what we need. More radar pollution...........

Some Caltrans vehicles (CAL department of Transportation) also emit weak k band signals.

There are a few cars that use K band radar systems I think mercedes is one of them. I haven't encountered any my self though so I can't say.

By the way, how far away from the car did you have to be for it to go off?

Top end Mercedes have radar guided cruise control systems that emit K band. I have seen this at least 5 times, all of the perpetrators were 5 and 6 series Mercedes. The frequency was always about 24.220 on my SRX.

MB has the Distronic cruise control system. It has a narrow 300’ max radar beam emitting from the center front grille. It is always on from what I can tell. Your RD is working properly.

A national automotive trade paper had an in depth article about a year ago. The European, American and Asian vehicle manufacturers were choosing whether to go laser or radar – and what band of radar. Infiniti has laser which has been noted on the forum.

Top models first, then filtering down to lesser priced vehicles as the years and acceptance by consumers expands. It’s gonna get polluted out there, arrrgh!

I have seen this signal come and go while purposely driving next to one of these K band emitting Mercedes. It seemed to stop when the driver of the Mercedes applied the brakes, so I'm pretty sure it is only on when the cruise control is engaged, but I could be wrong.

Yep, you are sure to encounter one sooner or later emitting K band radar. It's very easy to spot using Belscort's spec display, since the ones that I have seen are all around 24.220GHz.
