Default Newbie looking for a RD

I'm a Newbie looking for my first RD for mostly highway driving in NY and NJ. I see too many people pulled over almost every day to risk not having a RD any longer. Just had the insurance surcharge dropped from my last (and only) speeding ticket after three years. Anyway I just got a 2005 Accord Coupe V6 and often find myself well over the speed limit. Never had a V6 before and it likes to go. I'm looking for something $300 or less, preferably less. The models I've researched are the following: Escort X50, Bel RX55, Bel RX65, Bel V-995, and Whistler Pro-73. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

$300 or less then go for a Escort Passport X50 for $299.95 or whatever

Buy that or an RX65 ($330, ask if Roy can cut a deal) or a V1 ($360 for returned unit, $399 for retail).

Thanks for the lightening quick reply. I was sort of leaning the way of the X50 myself.

Go for it. It's a good unit. Just make sure to keep it out of the sun when you park. Or get a aluminized solar reflector for your windshield (don't pay more than $15!!), probably have to take out the RD off the windshield anyway but if you use the visor clip...

Thanks again for the tip. I usually use an aluminum reflector to save those leather seats.

Considering the type of driver I am (I honestly don't intentionally speed because I'm too much of a chicken....) could I get by with a decent RD at a lesser price?

Remember if KU band comes along you will have to pay for an upgrade or buy a new unit depending on what is offered by Escort. V-1, Bel V995 and the rx65 all have KU coverage built in and meet or exceed the range of the x50. Also, if you go with a Belscort buy from Radarbusters.com and buy an extended warranty if available, because there have been a lot of issues on the forum lately about dependability, but some people have no trouble at all. :? :? IMHO

Since you're talking about mostly highway driving I'd say the Bel Vector 995 ought to be a good bet. The only thing that it lacks vs. the X50 is filtering. I leave my V1 unfiltered on northeastern highways with very little trouble from falsing.

I have a V995 it has been very impressive in its detection of all encounters I have had thus far. I find it to pick up better than what alot of people give it credit for also does pretty good on Laser which shocked me. I would recommend this detector its basically the same as the Rx 65 minus a few features. I also found the falses to be very few in the city even on highway mode.

    I noticed that <link removed - jimbonzzz> has it for $269.99 plus 10% off = $243.00 or should I just give Roy a call?
