    Default new here........RX65........bad decision?

Hi guys, I have been reading a lot on here but haven't posted yet. Here is a little background. I really do not speed (intentionally). I just got a speeding ticket last month (on July 31st.........go figure). The ticket was for 74 in a 55. I just got a new car. I was driving a Honda Civic for 8 years..................a car that is VERY easy to judge your speed in without looking at the speedometer. I just bought a Honda Pilot.........a much more powerful engine and I am finding it VERY HARD to judge my speed..............obviously. Anyway.......I was on the highway and came over a hill and there he was...........sitting facing traffic on the right hand side of the road. He was using a Stalker Dual........I am assuming the rear antenna. So he pulled me over and slapped me. I may have a case with that one when I go to court.........I hope. THEN........about a week after that I am driving and there are two cars behind me and a cop passes all of us going the other direction..........slams on his breaks and flips his lights on and comes flying up behind us. Moves over the first two cars and comes behind me..............cursing I pull over and.,.........he blows by me..................whew.

Anyway.........Now I am having trouble enjoying my new car and find myself being really gun shy about driving now. So, I figured it was time to get a RD. Never had one before and it really is not so that I can speed........the most I ever do is 9 or so miles over. I just want to know they are there. I have been trying to use the cruise control as much as possible but you cant always use it.

So, to my question...........after all that rambling. I read a TON of reviews and so on and decided, after reading Radar Roy's suggestion (after all who would be a better judge than an ex-officer on how well a detector works) that I would buy an RX65. Now after reading more posts I am a little concerned. I see an awful lot of people complaining about the RX65 and it seems that the majority of people on here use either the X50 (my second choice) or the V1 (out of my price range). So, did I make a poor decision here? I am feeling a little remorse...........thinking I should have gone with the X50.
Also, can someone tell me if Veil and the various laser jammers are legal in NY state? Are they illegal anywhere in the Northeast? And what would you recommend for laser protection without spending huge money.

Thanks in advance guys. Looking forward to having some protection

rx65 will treat you well. I wouldnt have any worries. However, the laser detection is lacking.

VEIL is a solid investment, it should protect you from laser.

I don't think Veil is a good choice for the license plate because it's very obvious. My advice would be to use the laser shield for the plate and Veil for the headlights.

The RX65 is a great choice! Youll love it, dont worry, i was thinking the same way when i got my X50. For the Veil part, i think everybody needs this, its a great product!

I think you'll get a lot of service out of your RX65. The majority of people posting on it will be negative because they have a "reason" to post. It's like going to a support forum or usenet discussion group. You'll mostly read peoples' problems because that's why they are there to post - to get help. People won't go to a support forum to tell everyone what a good time they are having with a particular product. Granted this is not a "support" forum per se, but the reasoning can be suitable.

Someone will be dissatisfied with a RD, and post in any subject they can find about it. One guy a couple weeks ago was like that with his purchase of a RX65. He went to many subjects about the RX 65 and posted his dissatisfaction with it. I haven't had any problems with mine and I'm quite satisfied with my purchase, as are many other posters on this forum.

    Enjoy your RD.

Laser Jammers are Not Illegal in NY State.....yet.
I'm sure you're gonna love that Honda Pilot....it's a great vehicle.....
NY State Troopers are masters at using their Ka Stalkers so you will definetly need an RD with Excellent Ka Detection.
My Bel 985 was and still is up to the task.
So The RX65 will serve you well as would the X50 or the V1.
NY State does use Lidar, so a Jammer is worth considering, unfortunately that Pilot has ENORMOUS headlights, so veil is worth considering.
Bottom line is you can't really go wrong with any of the BIG 3.
    Welcome to the Board,

Thanks for all the help so far guys. I guess I will just keep my fingers crossed that:

    a) The RX65 will hold up well with good care and
    b) that I can get my %#$@ ticket reduced

RX65 should be here this week. Looking forward to mounting it and trying it out.............gotta love new toys

    Thanks for the help

Like everyone else said... Any of the top 3 detectors will take good care of ya. Just know what the strengths and weakness are and adjust for them. Veil is a must if your dealing with laser.

    Drive safe, have fun,
