The reason why the national 55MPH limit was repealed in the first place was the widespread non-compliance.

Is this just a subtle way to raise "tax" revenue since most states are running on deficit these days?

If you want to choose to drive slower to save gas, then drive slower to save gas. Forcing people to drive slow to save gas is retarded. What if I drive a Prius or a TDI and I get 2 to 3 times better milage than everyone else? Does that mean I can drive 2 to 3 times faster than a gas guzzler? Of course not. It doesn't take into account the car you choose to drive, just how you drive. I can drive a prius over 100 and probably get the same milage as a big pick up driving 55. Their are so many flaws in this train of thought... George Bush must have came up with this bright idea.

Going back to a 55 mph PSL is a terrible idea. Did Senator Warner even think about traffic bottlenecking and backup concerns. Why just yesterday, I noticed an older lady going 55-60 in the left lane in a 70mph speed zone. Their were 17 cars behind this lady that wanted to pass her but she was “hogging” the left lane. I don’t agree w/ going “backwords” to a 55 mph PSL. It’s simple, LEAVE THE MOTORISTS ALONE!

Default Speed limit change to save gas

I not crazy about about seeing a 55mph speed limit again. I wouldn't want to see anything lower than a 65 mph limit.

It was actually Senator John Warner of Virginia who introduced the bill. A copy of it can be obltained here ---->

.: United States Senator John Warner, Virginia :: Press Room :.

He is advocating a federally mandated 60 MPH max speed; not 55. WE THE PEOPLE need to rebel against this insanity. Government needs to get out of our business. Its not government for, by and of the people anymore. Its government TO the people.

I think the speed limits are just fine the way they are now. I'm even for an autobahn like speed limit for places like west Texas. Anyone who's ever driven that desolate stretch of road driving 55mph is like standing still.

I think the psl is 85mph out there now.

    Just my 2 cents.
