Default Need a RD in PA

    Hi,

I am looking to find out what kind of RD would be best for me here in PA. To me its pointless to spend alot on one since our state only allows State Police to use radar only, locals use VASCAR, ESP, and pacing. I am looking at Whistler products, 325,425, and the 330. Are these pretty good? I don't really drive out of the state either.

Hey welcome! Yea Pa has some weird laws...PA state police use K band only...i would recommend a V1 because of its sensitive and arrows but the other top dogs are the 9500i and STi...

    take a look at this..

Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test - August 2007

also in PA you could have your RD with pop off, X off and Ka off since they are all not used

Thanks for the link, I'll check that out. I can't really afford a V1 though otherwise I'd get it.

How effective are RD when the PSP are sitting on, on ramps looking down getting people from the sides/back and I am going the way they are facing (i'll get it in the back or sides as well). ? Mostly they just sit there or behind stuff. and someones out in the open.

You get what you pay for. Most of the less expensive detectors sacrifice sensitivity. I suggest you spend a few extra $$'s for a V1 or Bel STI or others. These have decent off-axis sensitivity help in the situation you describe. Check out the GOL test results.

PA is tough since a lot of their enforcement is time based. I'll be trekking across the state on the PA turnpike in about a week or so and am NOT looking forward to it, even with my STI.

If you dont have the cash for a V1 or STI I would look for an Escort x-50. I feel the X-50 would work well for your purposes since the x-50 is really good on K-Band. I have seen the x-50 on sale for $199.00. As for working on ramps, it will be fine if you use a rabbit and keep within 3/4 mile of the rabbit. I go thru penn 2 times a week and am familiar with the Staties hiding spots. They run constant on and instant on so use a rabbit for the instant on threat. I also feel the x-50 is as hot on k band as the new 9500i without the extra cost for the extras the 9500 has.

An X50 for 199 I would bet is not from authorized dealer. Yes, K is used in PA, I know the whistlers pro 78 is pretty strong on Ka, but read it is weaker on X and K.

In that case I would get the vector 955 so you can shut off x in the city.

Pro 78 for a cheap alternative. Excellent Ka sensitivity, and I've seen it wreck an 8500 X50 in K tests. People say the X50 is so much better on K, but I've yet to see that.

    YouTube - E925 V995 X50 Pro78 RX65e - extreme K band test - Backward

Oh, what was that? Did it beat...everything in K detection? :P

If you don't want to dish out for the x50, you can pick up a Bel Vector 940 for around $130-140 and it's slightly more featured bro, the v955 for around $150-160. Mine gets great K. I'd point out, though, that I've also heard the x50 isn't that much (or any) better than a Rev C Whistler Pro78 or XTR-690...
