After reading several posts today and thinking about how this board has grown and the information that is shared on it, is mind boggling to me.
I suspect that allot of manufactures and dealers have a love hate/relationship with this board, while others hate it entirely. Let me explain
The Good
Who would had suspected that 15 people that didn’t know each other a year ago, would gather in a town park and test the latest radar and laser products. Then be able to post their results where they are read by thousands of people!
Who would had suspected that small overseas manufacture would come up with a new product (protype) that would beat all the other long established dealers. How their final product turns out, it is still to be seen, but they are certainly on the right track.
Who would had suspected that several LEO’s meet and share information with other radar/laser fanatics?
A new company that makes what many thought was a crazy paint that is applied to your car to reduce laser sensitivity and that the product actually works, and they get rave reviews from hundreds of board users.
A company finds out in testing by the “Ohio Group” that their current product doesn’t jam a particular mode of laser (debated by members if it is new or old mode). It’s back to the drawing board and to get the new pro-types online! Will this be fixed? Without question… (So this is good)
The Bad
It is discovered at SML and backed up by the Ohio testing, that a long established HIGH END manufacture of laser diffusers that their product does not jam one single laser gun!
And that the same company's (same company that had come to the board touting their product) newest and greatest radar detector (costing over $1500.00) overheats. And by the time you detect the officer’s radar gun, you can get out and literally throw rocks at the radar gun and HIT IT!
The Ugly
RMR, should I say more?
Has this board had any impact on the way manufactures, dealers, testers in the industry do business? I strongly suspect YES!
I for one, have always strived to provide the best customer service and to make sure that any of the products we sell are the top of the line and work as advertised. Now by no means am I perfect and I never will be, but when something does slip through the cracks I try very hard to fix it, because if I don’t, I know that the customer would be complaining on this very same board about my service and/or product.
This board has also put pressure on the industry to develop new technology and to make sure that it works prior to its release. Because they now know that there are users of their products that have the technology, experience and tools to test their products.
Do the manufactures, dealers read this board and even care what is posted? I can tell you without a doubt that they do!
When I started this board last November, I set a goal to have perhaps 4 -5 users a month. I was shocked while STILL SETTING THE BOARD UP the first day, that I had that many users sign up in an hour!
This board has grown to well over a 1000 users, has over 43000 posts, and is ranking #1 in search engines such as Google, MSN and others.
Do I take credit for this board, hell no! All I do is pay the bills (dedicated server, band width)
The real credit for the success is users like yourself, the admins, and the dedication that some users feel to gather in a rain soaked city park in Ohio!
Thanks guys (and gals)!
