cops detection range...

just wondering what the cops detection range is on there radar...if u can

any one have an idea. bc i picked up an x band going 40mph. i hit my taxomiter and .3mile was the cop coming twards me. with otehr traffic around him

Well the range has allot to do with the terrain the officer is using his radar gun and the traffic conditions.

In ideal situations an officer can clock you over a mile away.

However, case law states that in order for an officer to make proper target identification, the vehicle MUST be within 1000 feet.

The range can be over a mile sometimes! Police don't ticket at these distances because a "visual estimate" is required to get a convication and unless they have a telescope they can't see what car is what from that distance...! :shock:

actually I thought of getting one of those 30 million candle power lights that plugs into cig lighter and using it at one time... :wink:

You could say if your pulled over "well officer I ran into a deer last month running across the highway that I didn't see and I was just being on the safe side this time.. :wink:

I actually used one of those driving once at night against those guys who leave their highbeams on on rural roads... first time I tried it I nearly blinded myself so I didn't again

Haha you guys. Don't you read the warning labels? I don't know about them 30 million candlepower lights, but I know a 3 million candlepower light will permanently blind you pretty quickly. In fact, have someone stand about 20 feet away and shine it on the back of your neck. It won't take long before your neck starts to burn.
