I was just wondering what are all the possible causes of laser falses. Also, what you think happened...
I was driving straight down the interstate. It is a high enforcement area and known vascar trap. I visually scanned for planes and set my foot to about 80mph. Speed limit was 60mph, 5 lanes wide on the side I was driving on with medium traffic averaging about 70mph and no one in the far left lane for a mile. As soon as my GPS alerts to a popular speedtrap 1500 feet ahead (I need to adjust this distance) I get a laser alert. I braked to about 70 and moved over a couple lanes and then coasted to 60. I scanned in front and then behind me. There were a couple trucks and older model cars that were too cheap to have laser guided cruise controls. NO infinities anywhere. No highend vehicles either. I saw no cops but suppose there could have been one way behind me, .5 mile at least on the overpass, but I have my RD mounted too high to have detected that; plus, he would probably had shot me sooner/closer. I saw no cops anywhere down the road either and I was looking hard.
Based on the location of my RD (as high as possible) it couldn't have been a rear hit. I saw no cops in front, but it could have missed a well hidden one, they had a lot of hiding spots, but there were zero cars to chase that I could see. It was around noon so there was no direct sun light. I was not near any airports or sunpass locations. The road didnt curve for over a mile, so I dont think it could have been an oncomming car with laser cruise. My ideas of possibilities:
-Cop that was looking for someone going faster than 20+ in a black BMW coupe (hard to believe, but I am in Miami).
-One of you guys tagging traffic with laser for fun (and torture)
-Maybe some kind of driver awareness I dont know about yet with rear laser
-Some kind of circuitry issue that caused the false, but has not happened yet to this point and has not happened again
-The GPS somehow falsing laser (would also be the first time, but I have only used it for about 12 hours so far) -- also it wasn't plugged in, it was on the battery.
-An infinity on the other side of the interstate with very badly misaligned laser.
-A cop whose chase car left him to get donuts but he was bored and shooting traffic still
-I actually slowed enough before the cop got a lock on me, because the best hidding spots were 2000 feet away and he shot me way too early (and was hidden really really well)
What do you guys think? Anything I haven't thought of or know about?
