    Default Potential Laser Countermeasure?

Sorry if this isn't the correct forum...

I have a late model Mustang which has a heck of a rear end to make any LEO's mouth water. The area between the taillights would make an easy target if the LEO was shooting at you from behind. So here's my question: Will a honeycomb blackout panel (like the one in the link below) that I installed have a significantly better reduction in punch-thru than without or am I just all wet?

I realize there's still a lot of area that lends itself to easy pickin's.

Well... every passive countermeasure will help (I consider that similar to a front nose-bra on a car or something.) The bottom line is: Without a jammer: You are FITA (somewhat literally since we are talking about your cars rear-end).

Honestly I will say it likely wouldn't hurt... but I would save the $150 towards a jammer back there, especially if you like the stock looks of your car more.

It's already on for appearance sake without consideration to it's potential laser "assistance". But i AM considering a jammer...

Hold on am? You should consider a jammer silly! haha

But no I would talk to DJ grams about this, he will post here when he gets back online and sees this thread. He has almost the same mustang as you.

BTW, I think it will help, but it won't be a countermeasure, but more like a counterhelper. Also, to make your mustang look nicer and potential counterhelper, go to decalfx.com and look at taillight black out's. Plus look at all of the other sweet stuff they have.

Mustangs suck, but I have to admit I like that honeycomb thing. Looks good. And if it covers what is usually just glossy paint, then it certainly adds at least a small amount of protection. Every little bit helps. Thing is, it is not going to give you a measurable amount of defence unless combined with something to shield that big reflective licence plate. If the officer misses your plate at first, and hits the honeycomb, it's still only a matter of microseconds before the beam hits the plate. And with an STI, you're never even going to get an alert to slow down, so that protection is entirely wasted. The ONLY hope you have is to either get a jammer, a V1, or both.

That panel will make absolutely no difference without a jammer. Remember, all(although someone might be able to come up with an example to the contrary, but I'll stick with all for now) rear laser shots are a point blank range and give basically instantaneous readings. I got smoked on a rear shot with a jammer. Without one you have no shot.

Now, in combination with a jammer this might help, but probably not much. I'd have to test it to be positive, but I doubt there would be much difference. It does look cool however.

Like the others here have said, alone, it likely will have little effect - there's simply too many hardpoints surrounding this particular area, for a singular panel replacement to make much difference.

However, in-synergy with other passive as well as active protective measures, certainly, every bit can and well help, and it is also my core belief that the whole is greater than the simple sum of its parts.

Finally, the price is right - at the cost of that component, if that were my vehicle, I'd definitely be willing to tackle modifying that part in order to both more optimize rear jammer head placement, as well as to offer said heads some very nice visual camouflage.

If you like the looks of it, go ahead. But I think it would have little, if any effect on LIDAR.
