Was wondering if anyone on the forum runs with Ku on, and if so, have noticed sources for Ku band? I was thinking of running Ku on for a while, just for fun and wanted to know what to look out for if I just so happen to get a Ku alert.

I've done some research, and the only source for Ku falses I've found are satellite dishes. I wonder how far away from one you have to be for it to set off your RD. I can't test this at the moment due to me having cabel TV. Otherwise, all I can find are random Ku occurances such as the one you described. My guess is that it's a different signal that the detector misinterpreted as Ku, just like how some RD's will report a strong K band signal as Ka.
I have found that some satellite/GPS devices have KU emissions. The GPS in the 9500 & GX65 have special shielding for it.
I never had a KU false on my 9500I, I believe it just notifies as a X band alert.
My RD sometimes reports Ka when parked in the driveway and pointed at directly at the satellite dish even though the dish operates on Ku and neither of my RDs are Ku-enabled.
They show up as low to medium strength at about 25 feet.
I've also tried it, and only received a few random Ku alerts -- mostly out in the middle of nowhere. I suspected an airplane crossing over in one case, but had no explanation at all for the other 2 or 3. I've also heard that it's used for weather radar, but don't know how or where that's done.
What type of dish do you have? I know that DirecTV uses Ka AND Ku band. This section of the manual is merely explaining what the alert tones SOUND like. This has nothing to do with what the detector SHOWS on its display. I have seen Ku band alerts on my RX65 and I can assure you they show up as Ku alerts. In the 9500i manual, though, it DOES say that when in Expert mode, Ku will be reported as an X band alert. I assume the same would be true of the RX65, but I cannot verify. As for the other modes though, I've seen "Ku" and "13.xxx" with my own two eyes.
