    Default Ka Band range

I have the whistler pro 73 and the other day I was on the highway and the cops where sitting in the dark on the sholder of the highway and I got a KA band alert at .5 Miles away it was on flat strech with a slight hill at the first . Is this good range or would I still be locked in on radar?

1/2 mile away is plenty of time to get slowed down. I doubt he got a good reading on you when the radar detector went off but he could have very well gotten some kind of reading but I would think he would wait until you were closer to get a lock on you and write the ticket.
I guess you did not get the ticket so you must have slowed down enough.

No I was coming toward him and he had a car pulled over so then I turned around and came back to see how far I could pick him up.

Were you approaching the car from the rear or the front when you got the alert?
I noticed you said he has his rear radar on. so I am guessing you got a 1/2 mile detection as you were approcaching him from the rear?

After you turned around what kind of warning did you get?

My PR058 tends to false alot, you can see my posts where I have written about this.
I have always had good warning on ka band depending on the roads and I would say 1/2 mile to 3/4 mile warning.
What model of Bel are you wanting to compare it with?

If you do not need or want the voice alert go with the PRO58 instead of the PRO73. Same unit just cheaper since it does not have voice alert.
When we were testing laser at the GOL a couple of weeks ago it gave plenty of warning on all guns. I was suprised it did as well as it did.

If you are on a budget and want a good budget detector and can deal with the falsing (a little more than I would like IMO) then go for the Whistler unit.
It has never failed to alert me in plenty of time on a real threat.
