Other then adding a massive road hazard to your visibility, an external cone isn't going to give you any boost in performance that a good detector won't.
Any of the good detectors will give you more than enough advanced notice if a cop is running constant on radar. If they're running IO, your chances of picking it up at short range and slowing down is just as high.
Driving 10 hours with a giant cone taped to your windshield is just going to obstruct your visibility.
Funny enough I actually tired that. No increase in range, maybe it needs to be grounded but who knows.
I found that the old style rabbit ears used for analog TV's works great.
