Thread: Passengers

    Default Passengers

Just curious, what does everyone do with their radar detector when they're driving with passengers?

In my experience, most people I drive around get really angry even if I turn the volume down as far as possible and run it on City NoX. Some have even knocked it clear off of the mount trying to press the mute button to shut it up.

Does anybody just turn it off and drive the speed limit when you're carting others around? I've thought about turning off the "Loud" tones on my X50 and running it with AutoMute turned on, but that seems like a lot of work to switch whenever someone gets in my car.

Also, it's always funny when people that have never been in my car ask "wait a minute, where is that plugged in to?" after staring at my RVM hardwire for a few minutes.

It all depends on who it is.

If it's another guy I keep it exactly how I would use it normally; keep it loud unless it's a long range C/O pickup then I'll hit the mute to quiet it a little.

If it's a female I don't know very well I keep it low unless they ask what it is, then I will turn it up a little.

If it's my current girlfriend I repeat what I do for a guy .

(I've never had anyone touch it, yet.)

I make no changes for passengers. If they don't like it they can walk!!!

so far the best i had was one day i had to take my mom to the store. She asked me what that thing on my windshield so i went ahead and told her. For the next 30 min of are drive she sat there lecturing me on how i drive and i would not need this stuff if i would just slow down so i said its not so i can speed it just gives me a heads up on where the police hide

They can't find it so they live with the beeps. Sometimes ask why it didnt detect the cop, so I have to explain it's a radar detector not a cop detector

I usually turn the volume down to a more courteous level and mute it more aggressively.

I turn the volume down or off. Since I drive polite with passengers on board it usually doesn't matter. If you have a passenger messing with your gear no matter what the volume is set at they deserve to walk.

Now my Mom likes to see the electronics at work so keep it on if she's onboard even though she's strictly a PSL passenger. Obviously my daughter doesn't care one way or the other. However, she has gotten into the role of "cop spotter". She officially noticed the difference between K and Ka band the other day and said "uh oh"

My 9500ix is very quiet in my area so it never really bothers.
