X50 or Rx65

I think ive asked this before but im not sure. Im really torn between these two models. I dont need a valentine, or a 9500i because i dont drive too much, but i am driving the interstate a lot lately and want a good detector. Im stuck between the escort and bel which are pretty much identical in terms of performance. I like the fact of voice alert but i dont really need it, or the Ku on the bel. But i have heard the x50's tend to have problems and people send them back a lot. I mostly encounter 90% of the time stalker ka 34.7 and decatur k band around my house. locally there are lots of hills and curves here in upstate new york. Just trying to get some opinions on the two to make up my mind.

thanks, i kind of like the x50 a little better as its a unit thats been around for years on end. I see more ka than k around my area especially on the interstate when its 99.9% state police. probly go with the x50 its alittle cheaper, and has great reviews.

I have owned both and can answer this question easily. Between the X50 and RX65 I would without a doubt choose the RX65. This is only true because you said that you mostly encounter 34.7 stalker radar. The RX65 is king of that frequency and I also live in NY. The NYST love to use the Stalker and I had the RX65 as my main detector for 3 years with many wonderful saves. I find that is often beats my V1 around curves and hills when dealing with 34.7.

I don't know. The X50 does have a different laser circuit design which seems to be somewhat better by most accounts. On the other hand, the RX65 tested at SML did detect every laser gun thrown at it. I wish Escort had sent an X50 to SML since it would have been neat to compare both RDs under the same test conditions. Most people seem to prefer the X50's alert tones, but I prefer the RX65's alert tones simply because I am quite used to the RX65's tones after having used Bel products off and on for years. As mentioned, the X50 doesn't have voice. Yet the highway mode radar performance between the two should be virtually identical. I'm not sure about any differences in the Auto or City modes. The X50 does have a more intense ramp-up whereas the RX65 has a near linear ramp-up. I guess it boils down to what features float your boat!

I recently purchased an X50 and really happy with it. I previously owned a V1 until the punks stole it out of my car. I can't speak for the RX65, but would bet it's on beat with the X50 easily.

Don't forget about the Escort C65 which is the Escort private label RX65 chassis. Either way you won't go wrong if properly installed in the vehicle.

It has surprised me two but the NYST near me run very low power 34.7 and the RX65 seems to do better with it in the backroads and hilly upstate roads. Nothing I know of will beat a V1 on the Highway. I have to be honest I have never been very impressed with the V1s Ka abilities because I often get Ka alerts off of other RDs and they don't get J'ed out.
