Default New to site in need of advice please

    Hello all and happy holidays.

I am new to the site and have been lurking for the better part of two weeks. I need to get some protection for my various vehicles I drive. I have been going "commando" for far too long and have been seriously lucky in the last month. Which leads me to get some protection before it will cost me $1k to go to court.

My vehicles are Dodge Ram, Dodge Dakota and my wifes 09 Camry.

The Dakota and the Camry are driven everyday, while the Ram is used on weekends. I live in a rural part of NJ and usually don't speed in town. Mainly, I need protection for the NJ Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway.

I have read that NJ seems to be tough.

Can someone provide advice on what to buy? Speding $500 is no big deal but I want to get quality, not just junk that will not work.

    Thanks in advance.

If you can do it, I would recommend that you take the "test drive" offered by both Valentine Research (for their Valentine 1 Radar Locator), as well as the 9500i or 9500ix offered by Escort.

This way, you get a first-hand run at both, and can decide what fits your needs best, yourself.

Excellent idea, if red light cameras are a threat get the ix and also a V1, try them for 30 days then choose what suits you best. Of course neither of these will offer any protection against laser, if that is a concern in your area you have to think about jammers.

There the choice right now is obvious, the LI (Laser Interceptor) is king, followed by the LED sytle jammers, Blinder and the ZR4's. Blinder is rumored to have a new product on the way in the next few months so you may want to see what they have in store for the market place.

You can't go wrong with either of the radar detectors mentioned previously though, all are great units.

4 Head LI (On Vette) (7.11 CPU Regular heads front, HP Heads on the rear)
    9500ci (On Vette)

LI Quad (On Ice Cream Truck)

LI Dual (On SRX, 7.06 CPU)

ProLaser II, ProLaser III, Stalker LZ-1, LTI Marksman & Laser Atlanta "R" (looking for an Ultralyte LRB)

The Valentine is a superior "rural" detector. I would test drive that.

Do you see much laser in the country?

I leaned towards both RD's mentioned. I have ordered a 9500ix already and actually should have had it but that's a different story. I will order a V1 on Friday to test out.

Locally, I don't really see laser. They use some sort inside vehicle mounted radar gun. I believe they have it forward and rear facing. On the NJT or GSP, who knows what the NJ troopers are using? I am hopeful there are members here that will know.

Mainly, we drive 10-20 mph over the PSL and that spikes to 35mph every so often depending on situations. I kind of have a good idea of the common areas the LEO's sit at but it's a gamble with the overhead ramps and such. By the time I will see them, they'll already have me targeted.

Also, I figured I would start with the RD, then Veil G4 (anybody know where to get that?) and then Laser protection. I can see to get the truck and car where I need to be will be a $3-4k investment so.....having the info is key to not wasting my hard earned cash.
    Thanks,
    Bryan

I know they use both laser and radar on the turnpikes.

I'm a big proponent of Veil, but it doesn't do much good as a standalone. I consider Veil as a product that dramatically improves the performance of less than top notch jammers.

    Thanks for the info.

After reading, I assumed that Veil would help me "buy a few seconds" of time if I got hit. I genrally am driving 15mph over the PSL and figured I could slow down enough for the time being. While there is no guarentees with this....it seems like the laser jammers are a nice chunk of change.

I see that LI seems to be a nice set up, is anybody using it?

I can get instantaneous punchthrough on my highly Veiled car within 1500ft or so, if I have both set of jammers turned off.

Lots of us run the LIs. They are the best in the business and it's not that close. I run the LIs and the 9500ci(ZR4s) at the same time.

I don't live in NJ, but travel through it sometimes with my V1. I cannot tell you how sick of the X band "falses". PA has their share of K falses, but the X drove me nuts. I did not want to use l or L mode, thinking I would miss an alert. Just something to think about, as you will likely need to turn all of your bands on.
