Default Red vs. Blue Alphanumeric LED Displays...

Speaking of colored LED displays, I now am leaning towards blue LED displays -- especially for night driving. Why, when I have stated repeatedly that I prefer red LED displays? Well, its finally happened to me folks -- age. During the last year I have noticed that my eyes have a much harder time at night focusing up close on red displays compared to blue displays. But keep in mind that for me this only applies to my RDs which I mount above my rear view mirror. The RD above the RVM is only 1-1/2 feet from my eyes, and its this close distance which now gives my eyes a problem with red LED displays. Have other older forum members noticed the same problem with red displays at night?

I had the 8500 x50 in blue and loved it. Was easy to see at all times of the day. Go for the blue! I don't have any experience with the red display though, sorry.

Sounds like the DMV might need to give you an eye test to make sure you're still 20/40 . In any event, get an xtr-695, the display rocks when mounted high, and will probably be way better on your eyes then regular red displays, and allows you to change the color to anything you wish

One of the hardest things about changing to the V1 for me. I loved the X50 blue especially at night.

My eyes are still good from 2 feet to infinity at night. Everything is perfectly sharp within this range. I'm still waiting to see if my local Walmart will start stocking the XTR-695. At least then I could tell my small town locals that there is one really decent radar detector which is available at a retailer in town. I keep pestering my local independently owned Radio Shack to either become a Bel/Escort dealer or at least stock Whistlers instead of Cobras -- no success so far.

I would rather have Blue LED any day over RED. My First x50 was red and i had problems with my eyes also. My 2nd X50 was blue and i really like it except it kept
freezing on my ass so i took it back to Best Buy. Now i have the Pro 78 and the Blue was alot cheaper to buy and superb performance

I too hated the blue at first but i'm starting to like it, except for when it washes out sometimes during the day. The brightness on my red V955 is always set to minimum and on the blue X50 its always set at max.

I experienced the same thing with the blue RX65 at SML2008. Its display was fairly washed out although still very readable when the display was in direct sunlight. Anyway, the perfect shade of blue which I would like to see for blue alphanumeric LED displays is the somewhat different shade of blue of the blue LEDs in the 9500ci's control module. That particular shade of blue likely wouldn't wash out in sunlight nearly as easily. The blue color in the 9500ci's control module is strictly due to the color of its tiny blue LEDs.
