I had a really bad experience today. I'm currently driving a rental car with a 9500ix mounted up high. I came across a CHP sitting on the side of the road with a customer. I was very close to him before my 9500ix went off on 34.7Ka band, maybe 1000ft. I thought it was pretty short, but I figured it was no big deal. He's probably running forward facing radar. Well, after I passed him, the signal dropped off quickly and died. Not good.
I drove about 250 miles today and had about 6 or 7 radar encounters, all but one of them was 34.7Ka and the other one was 35.5Ka and all were normal, except the one noted above. Traffic was light, weather was clear and dry. This encounter was way shorter than it should have been. I've detected CHP hundreds of times and I don't remember an encounter like this one, ever.
I'm very worried, because of this encounter, that CHP might also be purchasing new units that use the same radar antenna that my locals do on the Stalker II. This would be horrific news if I'm right. I certainly hope, for all of us, that it was was just a strange encounter for reasons unexplainable. If not, we could all be in big trouble.
