Good grief Jazzy... You are the Turd master
I found V1 over the hill results simular at 1 to 1 1/2 miles.
30% of the time run together my STI alerted me and my V1 was silent until almost top of the hill...
I wish V1 would improve over hill performance and add gps false lockout.. That would be the bomb..
I had 2 V1's at the time and thought the one I was testing with had issues too, so I swapped it out next time home and continued the comparison with the other V1. I found the same results with Both V1's.
I then looked at every V1 test I could find online and found several other test sources (not craig peterheads) where the v1 failed to alert on ka @1mile and 1 1/2 mile over hill test. I think since I did 12K miles with them I noticed this pattern where other testers may have not noticed an issue with the V1 over hill.. see other testers use the same course for the test, and the V1 doesnt fail over the hill 100% of the time... I found it failed to alert about 30%...
I love them and have owned them all and would never report anything more than the most accurate of my findings. I have no brand loyalty, just best performer for the type of driving im gonna do on a given day.
I've had the same experience with over the hill on Ka with my V1 as Freebird. The ix I tested it against beat it pretty solidly. My V1 is in for a tune up and as soon as I get it back I'm going to run some new tests and see if it doesn't do better.
I don't think you are reporting anything other than what you are seeing, but when I had detection problems with my V1, it had something to do with the way it handled heat. (When it got hot, its detection fell off.)
I sent it in to V1 and teted against my SRX on a nice long road trip. I made sure to let the V1 bake in the sun with no help, and the V1 smoked the SRX and every detector I have ever owned in detetction. (hot or cold)
When I first got my ix, it seemed to be on par with my V1, but fell off after the first month and is now in for repair.
I have owned:
Bel Vector 985
Bel RX65
A few Bel "express" entry level models
I now own...
Escort rev 5 X50
Escort SRX
Escort 9500ix
Valentine 1 (3.864)
I drive about 100-200 miles per day and have used the 985, the X50 the 9500ix and now the V1 in my work vehicle. (and every RD listed has been on a few 300-1200 mile road trips each.
Nothing has picked up hidden radar better than my V1. The ix was close, and I hope it will be again, but none of those listed have been as good at over-the-hill-around-the-corner-forward-facing sneaky LEO radar detection than my V1, in proper working order.
(Of course, I have never owned or used an STI though.)
I am not a "zombie" either.
One of my most recent posts detailed my V1's failure to alert to a known false when a LEO was running radar behind me on the same fq. And I posted the whole "my V1 is broken" letter in another thread when I sent it in. (Just as I did with my ix, last week.)
If your V1 can't get over the hill 34.7 until you are cresting the hill, I think it has a problem.

I got the same results with 2 V1's both 3.864 which led me to believe it was a V1 over hill issue. In the example I noticed the STI would give a couple beeps from 3-5 miles out from the hiding LEO, and the V1 would remain silent. As I got closer to the LEO they Both would alert and hold the signal from various distances until the LEO's location. I really wish I had a video to show and you would see what a differance it was. The fact that the STI gave a few blips of ka from far out that the V1 didnt see it is where I got the opinion the V1 was lacking in over the hill performance(not terrible just lacking a bit). If I could only have one detector I would go with the V1 for its overall performance on all bands.

I totally agree with you and thats not the case.In my earlier post I didnt explain it clearly like I hopefully did here.
In the previous cresting hill statement example the STI would give a couple beeps from far out, V1 silent until the next alert BOTH came on as I crested the hill.
