    Default Having trouble deciding.

Hi guys after getting my first speeding ticket ive researched all the RD's and i cannot really choose what to get, i drive in San Fernando valley part of Los Angeles and i drive both freeway and streets, my choices are...

    9500i
    Valentine 1

i really dont wanna deck out over $400.00

so little easier on the pocket my two choices would be
    8500 X50
    or rx65

what would you guys buy from the two categories and why?

For SoCal, in my opinion, the best choice by far is the 9500ix, even though it's about $100 over your quoted price point. RLCs are everywhere and almost all of your contacts will probably be Ka band and laser, unless by some chance your locals use K band, which is unlikely. CHP uses only Ka band and laser.

But, no RD will provide consistent protection against laser. Only a laser jammer will provide proper protection against laser. If the LEO used laser to detect your speed, $400 will not be enough to protect you.

I agree with DJ - if you're in an urban environment, go for the 9500ix or save a bit and get the 9500ci for jamming protection. The V1 is a great detector for where I live, but I'd think differently if I spent much time in town.

I think "save a bit" is a bit of an understatement. 3x the price is a jump in my book.

    None-the-less:
I agree though w/DJ and M6D the 9500ix would be the best for you, because many users report RLC's in your area.

It may be; but I think he could probably find a 9500ci for $1400ish, and I bet that a single $250 ticket and $750 increase in auto insurance premiums would make that a sound investment.

Remember, speeding tickets affect life insurance rates, too. In many cases, you can't get a decent umbrella policy if you have more than 2 tickets in 3 years, and even then the premiums are noticeably higher.

The 9500ix would be your best choice for detection ability, price, and quiet.

However, the 8500 X50 is a great detector in your price range. It's much quieter than the V1, which IMO is useless in large metro areas like LA.

You can kill X on the X50, run only K, Ka, and Laser and it won't annoy you too much.
