All hardwired, but all to separate switches. 12 gauge wire from the battery to a 6 way fused splitter under the dash. Not sure why, just the way I like it. I don't have to put inline fuses so it is easier to maintain when you have a lot of stuff. It is not spliced into the auto fuse system so no chance of overload. If something quits you can just check the label on the panel and see if that is it. Plus, you will add more stuff, why not get ready now?

Start the car, pull my RD out of the center console and clip it in - it starts up all by itself

Turn on truck plug in smart coil plug good to go......always unplug my radar if not driving somewhere.
If the truck moves in the city or rural roads it's pluged in.

I always have my radar detectors hard wired, as with most anything else in the car. The only thing I had trouble with was the old Uniden BCT-7 scanner. Sometimes when cranking the car, the user programmed memories would get jumbled up, and I would have to reprogram it. I have not had any trouble with any of my newer scanners.

All of my electronics are on switches (http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...h-install.html) so I can pick and choose what is on when. Four of my six switches are switched with the car so if I forget to turn them off, they don't kill my battery. I always leave the Sirius Radio on. The Garmin spends a lot of time off because it auto-syncs via bluetooth with my phone and for around town it's a pain to change the output on my phone everytime I get in and out of the car. The V1 is creating a bit of a problem.... I try to remember to turn the switch off before I get out of the car but often times I forget. The problem is that if the switch is on when I start the car, the V1 stutters. For instance, the normal boot-up rhythm is BEEP BOP (muted BEEP BOP) DEE DA DEE DA. Mine, when in the "on" position at startup does this: BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEE-BOP DEE DA DEE DA. So it's like it can't pull enough power to boot all the way. This is likely considering I drive a 4 cylinder Honda that's lit up like a #@($ing Christmas tree, but in any case it would be good for you guys to keep in mind that the V1 does not handle voltage drops at startup very well. I would prefer that it just defer boot-up until it has a constant power stream.
