Default RD Helps Bust a Drunk

Yesterday I was coming back from the beach with two friends and was in rural two lane north Florida. About 10 miles or so before the FL/AL state line, I had a chevy impala pull out in front of me. Immediately this guy starts driving erratically, running off the road on the right and kicking up dust, barely missing mailboxes and telephone poles.

It immediately turned serious when he started drifting left into oncoming traffic. He ran 3 vehicles off the road and came within inches of a head-on collision with a family of 4 and two young children. I said to myself that this day is either going to end with me getting this guy off the road or witnessing a bad accident.

I placed a call into our state trooper office and told them where we were and what was happening. After about 2 or 3 minutes of trailing this guy, we come into a small town and my Valentine One goes full strength Ka I/O. The only car that it could have come from was an unmarked chevy which we got the attention of and directed him toward the drunk driver. He had gotten the call and immediately pulled over, tested, and arrested this guy. My RD let me know that an officer was around, and helped get this guy off the street.

Good deed done for the day.

The laws for impaired driving are so "easy-off" oriented in our country that citizen drivers are imperative in keeping our roads safe. A
"good/great/perfect job!" wouldn't quite due here. You, sir, are a saint and I hope you maintain this vigilance.

    Well done .

Now driving while drunk is something no laser or radar gun can detect but you managed to use your RD to do a good deed here.

Driving while drunk is also more dangerous than speeding while sober so X2^.

I have no sympathy for those who drink and drive, I hope the local LEO's catch them all before someone gets injured or killed.

Trust me if I see one I will call in and give my video to the LEO.

Don't you feel helpless in those situations? I mean you see the guy swerving and stuff, yet there is nothing you can do but wait on the police, and hope someone doesn't get killed in the mean time.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to do my part. The look of terror on the mother in that car that he almost hit was enough to make anyone want to get this guy. The folks here on RD.net would have done the same thing I did as, yes we like to drive a little spirited, but we are safe when doing so. That morning we had left the condo and were watching the story of the MLB pitcher and friends who were killed by that drunk driver. No excuse for it whatsoever.

I was very impressed with the response from local government. In only a few minutes, law enforcement was coordinated in Paxton FL and Florala/Opp AL to bust this guy. Kudos to the system. I actually think the LEO wanted to get my attention to let me know that he was on the case, since I was not in my car and had the V1 connected by the cigarrette lighter and the noticeable cord hanging down. When he passed me, he gave me a nod and a waive. Great job on their part.

Good job. Drunk drivers are something else... no regard for anything.

Totally. I was saying a prayer that everyone could avoid him. He was driving in the oncoming lane of traffic like he thought he was on the correct side of the road.
