I had the most unusual and the most horrifying event happen with my V1. I was driving down the freeway going 70 -75 MPH with the my window and the passenger window all the way down and I came upon a little bump (sort of) on one of those little bridges where it goes from pavement to concrete.
Somehow by going over this "bump" it managed to make the V1 suction cups come off the windshield and bear left towards the window which in turn made the wire I had tucked in the roof liner come down then the wire somehow disconnected and then it hit my arm in which my hand was on the wheel and my elbow resting on the door and literally fly right out the window!!!
Thankfully and this is the only good news was that I was the only one on the freeway when it happened so I had time to immediately pull over run out and regain my now smashed V1. Smashed in the sense the only broken part was the display piece and the front and rear antenna covers. Everything else remained in tact except for the great gashes on the bottom and sides.
I powered it up to find it still amazingly makes the start-up sounds but all the display does is flicker sort of like what you would see on a computer monitor. I am just shocked at how it just flew right out the window. I could not have even thought of how to make it do that let alone having and seeing it do it.
I did manage to get all the pieces (knock on pavement here) that came loose. The control knob and mute lever, antenna covers front and rear, and the display piece. Now here is my question: What should I do?
Should I try and have VR fix it or should I start thinking about a new detector altogether?
I love my V1 (and still do even though it is now useless) and while I could afford a new V1 I am itching to try a X50. I have had a X50 before and it saved me right from out of the box from BB. I could get used to having a freq display and stuff but I know I would miss the arrows.
I will now ensure that 1) the power cord is secure and not loose and 2) NEVER drive with the window all the way down again.
