Thread: A Thought

    Default A Thought

I just got done reading the very long, and heated, thread submitted by my fellow Michigander. I have been a member of this websight for sometime now. I can tell you, from the law enforcement community, if you opened every manual of every piece of equipment you own and told us all the tricks about using rabbits and what not, we.........wouldn't care.
I hit my zone in Austin every morning after my cup of joe from the starbucks and I will, without even trying, knock down at least 18 to 20 contacts. Not all tickets mind you but for those contacts that are generated by speed, about half, there are one or two that have counter measures.
I have learned some things here that have made me aware, but my partner has never been on this sight and he gets around the same amount of contacts.
So, what I'm saying is, posting on or having conversations with those in law enforcement isn't going to make a bit of difference in whether, eventually, you will get a ticket for speeding, regardless of what countermeasures you use.
My job is secure and my ticket book is loaded. Saddle up.

Of the cars that you pull over with countermeasures, how many have low performing countermeasures (cobra/rmr grade) vs the better brands out there? I know that by having a decent RD and using it wisely my chance of getting pulled over is not absolutely zero, but its significantly lower than what it would be with junk or nothing at all.

From the sounds of it, Fritter uses mostly LIDAR, so what RD people are running is basically irrelevant.

Even a good jammer can be defeated. I've proven that with some of our fellow members. However I was forced to admit that they do work.

    Still, we don't really care.

That's good to know. Most of the cop forums I've skimmed have a certain hatred against anyone who has an RD.

That's because we do care about traffic safety. As a whole people who use counter measures are viewed to be, by cops, as up to no good. Some of our fellow members even brag about how "safe" they are and that they are better drivers when flying at low altitude.
The last accident I was involved in was a "crotch rocket". He slammed into the back of a semi truck trailer at an excess of 130 miles per hour. There wasn't anything left of him or his bike. In the wreckage of his bike was a radar detector.
I have nothing against the gadget jockeys. Just those that flaunt the fact that they are invincible.
    You are not.
It will catch up to you sooner or later. We will catch you and give you a citation or while flying at light speed someone will pull into your path and causes a collision.

Drive safe, I will be ready with a ticket or my accident reconstruction kit.......

If anything, I drive slower on my V1 than without it. 90-95% of what it picks up are falses (I don't really program it since I sometimes drive through X band states and I can filter appropriately myself), and while I know to ignore some of the alerts, plenty of times I slow down for K band around the highway since I have no intention of finding out whether it's I/O or a door opener.

I try to cruise at 80 on the interstate, which from my experiences and the cops I've talked to, is the limit for not getting a ticket (or 79, if you prefer). The problem is you inevitably zone out over the hours and go 3-4 miles faster (until you notice and brake). This is how I got my one and so far only ticket (83 in 70).

I don't really speed in town, and I hope from reading this forum you realize most RD users don't go searching for school zones to go 70 in and then paint run down children on the sides of their cars like fighter aces. The idiots who do soon find their RD won't protect them from LIDAR, etc.

The other thing that interests me is your (and perhaps others) cops opinions of 55 PSL freeways. At least in Boston and Atlanta, from my experience, no one goes anywhere near that slow. While taking drivers ed, at one point I had to go the speed limit in a middle lane, and was being passed on both sides as if I were standing still. Do you agree that it's probably safer to go with the flow, or do you think everyone needs to slow down and go 55?

I would like to point out that it's not JUST about whether you use a Rocky Mountain Radar detector or a Valentine detector, it's also about HOW you use it. I suspect that the majority of people who buy Escort and Valentine detectors do not understand how to use them properly, and so the majority of them don't really avoid many tickets.

I know that I have avoided multiple citations with the help of my equipment. But I also know that it's not because my equipment is a license to drive mindlessly with impunity...it's just a tool to be used wisely. AND I know that I'm not invincible.

As for being safe while driving fast...it IS possible to drive very quickly while being safe, but as I've said before, all the conditions have to be right, which again most people don't think about.

Fritter corroborates the opinions of the two LEOs I know best and that is if countermeasures work at all then it's only for sloppy enforcement practices. This is what I have said on my website and here many times. If the trap is well thought out it is unbeatable, countermeasures allow you to clear the dumb traps so when you run into the smart one and get your ticket the effect is not as catastrophic on your driving record. If any member of this forum is afraid to get tickets then don't speed because they are inevitable.

That said, I still don't see why hobbyist and traffic enforcement can't get along. The hunting metaphor used by TrooperX was the whole impetus to start speedTrap crashing in the first place. Most traffic enforcers see it as a game then why shouldn't we provided it's on the highways and not surface streets.

Now for my next question. How does a person run his motorcycle into the back of a Semi at 130 mph? I sense some missing facts here. Driver condition, road condition? Location of Semi? Did he hit it at full speed or was he making an adjustment trying to avoid something else?

Speed is like alcohol at the scene of a pregnancy. It might be a factor but it's not the father.
