    Default fake radar sources?

I know in NC they put fake radar sources in school buses and construction vehicles, but what about highway overpasses? On my drive home from school, I'd say about 1/3 of the overpasses I cam across were emitting strong K (or maybe X, I forget), signals with no cop anywhere to be found.

I have not seen any radar transmitters on highway overpasses in NC. There are some I think in Maryland on some of the interstate. If I remember correctly, they are X band transmitters. In PA, they have a lot along the interstates on big orange construction signs designed to display text messages. The odd thing is most of the signs do not have a message and just sit dark along the side of the road. They are very irritating and making speeding more risky because you can never tell if a real cop is around the corner or another sign. I think they operate on both X and K band. Also I have seen highway patrol in road construction vehicles clocking people too. If you are ever in Wilmington, NC, the sneaky police pretend to be golfers, bums, stranded motorist etc to nail you for speeding.

So that road construction vehicle emitting the strong K band wasn't a fake but a cop..it did seem to be kinda seperated from all the other road construction vehicles.

I have performed some consulting for traffic reporting companies.

The radar transponders you are referring to on overpasses may be used for real-time traffic speed monitoring for incorporation in traffic reporting.

New York State uses moblie road signs (especially in construction zones)on the toll interstates I90 & I87 that emit a powerful constant K Band signal.
Very frustrating because my Bel 985 starts picking up the signal miles away. Even though NY State Troopers use Ka.....I'm not gonna take a gamble and ignore a full K Alert....you never know!
So it is an effective way of getting traffic to slow down.
    Still .......very frustrating........ :?

FYI.....I've often seen speed traps set up in construction zones......the radar car parked right by the sign........so if you get a dual alert constant K and a sudden burst of Ka in NY State....hit the binders......

    The Moral......Stay Alert....

Yes. In NYS they double your fines if you are in a construction zone, and recently (last summer) they were launching a "Great Speeding in Construction Zone Jihad" and were going overboard with TV adverts, police everywhere etc. Even me in Canada was getting bombarded with Pataki going "slow down in work zones" every 5 minutes while I'm trying to watch CSI on my "greymarket" DirecTV satellite dish, that is supposedly rotting away my heritage, so says the CRTC and I should be stripped of it immediately...

/edit/ : how did I go from speeding to stupid TV regulations?
