    Default Roy vs Ebay

Here's an idea... Since we all know the perils of buying/selling detectors on Ebay (to me, the savings is not worth the risk), I'd love to see radarbusters.com open up a used detector/jammer business. He could buy, verify the product was working, send a payment (or perhaps 'store credit') to the seller when the product is deemed to be fine, and then resell the product at a fair markup for his time and effort.

This way we could have the benefit of a reliable used marketplace, and it would be so much easier for us afficiniados to upgrade to the latest and greatest as soon as it came out since we'd always have a place to peddle our used detectors without much hassle.

Would anyone be interested in that? If'm sure if there's an overwhelming yes, being a great entrepreneur Roy would seriously look at it.

I don't think it would be a great idea for Roy. His business is built on quality which is assurable with a new product. If a new RD fails then the manufacturer is responsible. If a used detector fails then Roy is either on his own or he has to head it off by selling them "as-is." It would also be tough to hammer out a business model that wouldn't interfere with the sale of new detectors.

Personally, I think Roy does a good business. People should be able to sell used detectors to him, and maybe he could organize a "tent sale website" with a whole lot of used detectors. All Roy could really use is a few workers to test out some of the detectors, and others to take pictures and post them on the web with descriptions. I would love to get my hands on a good, working original Escort 8500 that could be certified in a way such that the warranty from Escort wouldn't be devoid. The whole "original owner" thing just really gets me angry, and if Radar Detectors were to go back to certified resellers that could test them and verify they still work up to specs when the warranty hasn't expired from the original date, if the thing works, use it. I mean, that's just how people sell used cars that stil have service warranty on them; you give the new owner the warranty that is still left from the original purchase date, or offer the customer to buy a warranty plan. Escort could make a fortune off used detector warranties if they chose to transfer ownership of their products more cleanly.

I think we should have a Trader section on this forum...even for anything we have to sell...not just detector specific...good chance to trade that old crap in the shed
