Dude with a Cordless Solo Got NAILED!

On the drive home from work today I got passed by a guy with the older model Solo (RD-5110). I was already doing 80-85 in a 65, but I pick it up to 90 and he was still leaving me behind, so I let him go on ahead and be my instant-on sucker. A few minutes later I see brakelights, then a Ka hit...top the hill and a state trooper in a Silverado is chasing the dude down. He was probably doing 95-100 when he got nailed. The trooper didn't look too happy when he got out of his truck!

Time to upgrade that Solo bro... 8)

And that, my friends, is why cordless detectors universally suck. Too unreliable in instant-on situations.

Especially old ones.

And at that high speed YOU were able to identify the maker and the model of his RD :roll:
He got nailed for speeding but YOU are GUILTY for not paying FULL attention to the road... so for me YOU are more guilty than he was, speed AND lacking to pay full attention to the road is worst than JUST speeding :!:
A smart, professional speeder NEVER takes his/her eyes off the road, this includes peeking into passing vehicles' interiors :roll: Do that and everything could change into a catastrophy in just 1-3 seconds :!: :!: :!:

Although to be fair, the the cop isn't a complete moron and knows how to use instant on, then you or your buddy going 90+ would have been the first target he shoots with instant on, thus even if you had the best detector in the world it would have been too late.

In my case for example, I use a V1 which is very good on instant on... however I was the first car in my lane to get zapped... the cop didn't shoot anything previously for me to detect...

Thus $125 later I'm much more carefull driving when I don't have Cop-bait car up ahead of me "shielding" me.

RoadWarrior: I know it seems crazy but I can identify almost any make of RD when I pass people. On friday heading to MD I was plagued with my V1 RMR hunting. For 10 miles I had a rmr unit that keep making my V1 think it had found instant on. My V1 said they where infront of me so I just sped up until I found them. Sure enough it was a RMR so I hit the first rest area, took a break just to get away from them.

I'd love for the FCC to crack down on the garbage known as RMR!

Doesn't sound like that's the fault of the detector.

Travelling at 95-100+ in an area with instant-on [Ka] is certainly asking for trouble, I don't care which detector is in use, especially if you are alone and not in a pack.

But still keeping your eyes on the road all the time, especially at high speeds, is the best antidote against a stupid and very regretable crash :wink:
