They both failed at crucial times that would have netted me a ticket.
i didn't have the camera going on these first runs, but i went back and got it for part of the second run.
The ci is mounted low in the grill, vertically, the STI-r high above the RVM and horizontal (standard).
Here's what happened.
Pulled out on the street and was driving when the ci started alerting to k band. the STI-r was silent. i thought that it was a mile or more ahead, so I didn't get too concerned. (first, i figured anything close the STI-r would alert, second, the ci beats the STI-r sometimes by upwards of a half mile or more on k band)suddenly I get a full k band alert on the ci, and the STI-r was still nothing.
slowed, and a block later (actually about a 1/4 full block), there is the officer running I/O k band, with the Kustom radar unit (looked like an HR12 or something similar) sitting outside his window.
with just the STI-r, i would have had no early warning whatsoever. Result=ticket.
Just past this as i pulled into the parking lot, the STi-r picks up the k band opener and alerts as it should have.
The ci has that opener locked out.
a few minutes later i leave the parking lot.
I look down and the ci is spinning the lock icon, well past where it should. i then get a k band alert from the STI-r (finally, he must have just held it on), but the ci is SILENT, spinning the icon.
The ci just ignored a real threat, past an area where it no longer receives any type of false from any door openers.
if i hadn't been running both to compare a vertical vs horizontal i would have been nailed either coming or going!
very disappointing from both of these.
also on a side note, the ci seems to be outperforming the STI-r with it's vertical mount. it loses some extreme off axis, but in "normal" conditions it alerts equally, and more often than not, it beats the STi-r by seconds and sometimes distances of a 1/2 mile or more.
working on the vid i have to follow shortly.
