Default Does moving radar use one or two signals?

When moving radar is used, does it send a signal to monitor patrol speed, and then a seperate one to clock oncoming vehicles, or does it use one, and split it?
there have been times where i may get a quick blip, then it goes full blast for instant on.
the other day i got a quick ka hit, then it went to full alert as i approached a moving DPS unit. it momentarily showed two signals (bogey counter) to front, then 1 to rear as we passed.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Don't know about the signal acquiring patrol speed, but I do know that some officers operate with both the front and rear antennas on, and that could explain the two signals on your detector.

Generally, only one signal is transmitted.
For moving mode, there's a reflection from the target vehicle, and a reflection from the road/terrain to determine the patrol car speed. The radar unit knows which is which, for example in oncoming mode, the higher frequency is the sum of the speeds of the target vehicle and the patrol car, the lower frequency always the patrol car speed.

At close range, the bogey counter can display multiple bogeys because it is detecting reflections from different places. That could be what you experienced, or dual antennas like the previous poster said...

Thanks to both of you, that answers my question and is a good reason why i picked up a 2nd hit.
