I got my first car when I was 16 and it was a 3000gt. I hit 100mph everyday on the way to school for the rest of high school and I did 130 the first month that I had it. My only protection was my eyes but I rarely sped except for places that I didn't feel like I could be being watched.
I started out with an 8500 X50 right before my sophmore year of college (summer of 2004) that I bought when I got my honda accord (new to me) and I was about ready to drive back to school. I read on this website that cobras were sh!t and I needed it that day, so I flew over to best buy and bought the best Escort they had, the X50. The trip started off slowly with a few falses and then passing cops with no radar on... I was so amazed by the number of cops with no radar on! Anyhow, towards the end of my trip I get a huge save on Ka around a bend (ah.. I miss the days of so much constant on). I was sold from then on. I had it mounted flat on the dashboard for like 2-3 years and then I sold that car because the A/C went out and bought a piece of crap Blazer that I had for a few months before I sold that to finance my trip to Spain for 5 months. In all that time, I had never really found the urge or need to have a v1 because my X50 was plenty and I didn't want to bother with the falses. Oh... I got a laser ticket in there somewhere while flying through GA, right before I sold the honda.
So, I come back from Spain with an X50 in another state and no car. My dad gave me 5k and I spent 3 of it on another POS chevy... this time a monte carlo and I bought a POS Solo 2 that I later returned for the trip home. I was reading one of my car and drivers that was piled up in my room thanks to my roommate when I got back and I see an add for this new 9500i. I hop on RD.net and it sounds okay... a few bugs but not bad. So I had to try it out. Welp... spent my $450 and sold my ~4 year old X50 on Ebay for like $200 bucks. Not bad... I basically had rented it for $25/year. Well, then I went to work at Best Buy and I was going to exchange it b/c the ramp-up sucked and I figured out a way to return it and buy a new one, while pocketing about $150... I also bought a hardwire kit at this time and mounted it high and I have never went back to the old way. I then bought my motorcycle and bought an X50 for that and then later switched to a 9500i for that as well. I ended up selling all those on Ebay (X50, 9500i, Monte Carlo, which wasnt running anymore) and craigslist (FZ6) when I moved to Miami and now I just have my one 9500i in my one BMW (that my awesome mom bought so I would sell the bike).
