Default Bought my old man an x50 for fathers day

My father mentioned in passing the other day that his original 8500 has been coming up with error messages on and off lately. I had him look at the Escort site and explained to him the options. He refused to get one with the GPS functions (and felt that way before I even had my 9500i), and wanted one as close to his 8500 as he could get. But when he saw the price of an x50, he was like "F it. thats ridiculous. You only get $80 for the trade in"

So I figured I'd grab it for him for the holiday.
He's psyched. He said I wasted too much money on it, but I know he'll enjoy it. There's nothing more uncomfortable than driving around with a radar detector thats not 100% reliable.....

Thats nice my father got a warning on fathers day for doing 42 in a 30 but he doesn't speed much or use RD, why didn't you go for a refurbished 8500?

I think the X50 is great. I use to have one. It's an upgrade from the 8500. He just refuses to trust any kind of filtering of falses...so a 9500 series was a definate no go.

    Cheapskate!

If you really loved him you'd have bought him a V1.

I offered. I explained why I prefer it, but he just said he wanted another one like the one he had (8500). So there you go. I even gave him my opinions on the 9500i or ix and told him he could just not use the lockout features with it. Nope I don't want that. So what can you do. X50 is great for a bare bones detector. I loved mine.

He says he doesnt care where the signal is coming from, as long as he knows its there. And he's from the school of thought that he wants to know where ALL radar is at all times. Thats why I pushed for the V1.....but he refused.

yeah did you explain the 8500s hardware, just not the software, does the filtering hence fewer door opener alerts?

But some of us are purists

Yes I did. I've told him before when hes spouted that he wants to know of ALL RADAR present, that he should have a V1. The x50 has more filtering capability etc. and I remember him telling me that my 9500i falsed more than his original 8500. I told him it was because of higher sensitivity...and I didnt use the lockout trash.
