    Default Great Forum

Hello everyone....I am coming from D-town. I am new to this forum as of a month or so ago (first posting). Thanks to all for the great info and stories. It's nice to be able to chat as adults about a cool topic, unlike most forums that fight among each other without even talking about the subject in the forum.

Few questions. I have a Bel express (I forget the model-too cold to go in the car and look, whatever it is, I don't see it on Bel's website anymore.)

It was voted best RD for $100 by our boy Roy. It's a "not bad, get whatcha pay for" RD in my mind.

If I upgrade to one of the big 3, will I see a significate difference in Ka and K detection range?

Are the big 3 less chatty than the cheaper brands?

Just wondering if it's worth it to spend a few hundy more. I'd rather not if the detection range and false alerts aren't any better.

Please let me know your thoughts.

    Take care

It depends. See our "Guys of LIDAR" test results, we also tested the 985:

Probably slightly more chatty, at least with POP turned on.

You are entitled to your opinion. I was as shocked as anyone when the Ka results unfolded right before my eyes. I can GUARANTEE you one thing though and that is the test was legit, honest with NO hidden agendas!

if ya wanna upgrade to a better detector,,,,,wait and see the tests of the New Brand X when it is released, it is supposed to have better filtering and long range detection.

    1) my guess is that you will see an improvement in k and ka detection, especially around corners and over hills (i havnt had much experience with older detectors, but from what i've heard and seen from friends, thats my guess)

    2) you will probably get an equal or possibly more falses with a top 3 (or almost top 3 detectors, like the escort 8500, bel v995 or 895), but thats becuase your detector is more sensitive and you'll always know its working!

    hope that helps a bit

I understand that Brand x is hush hush, but when can we expect this RD to go live so that we can test it?
