Before I get sliced and diced-- I've been lurking here for a little while, so YES, I have read the stickys and understand that there is no drag-and-drop answer to my question...I would just like some advice.
I'm going to be driving from Fort Bragg, NC to Washington, DC once or twice a month, round trip, starting early next year. I have a black late-model VW GTI which I am looking to trick out with some gadgets to make the trip a little smoother.
Here's my wants vs. constraints.
1) I'll be passing through VA for a significant portion of the trip, so the countermeasures must be very stealthy-- both in their signature and in their mounting. I think I need a radar detector AND laser jammer; thoughts on this?
2) Money isn't really a constraint, but I don't want to spend more than $2,000; hopefully this is enough to get me a good system. I've read all the reviews on the Valentine 1, STI, 9500CI, etc. and don't know what the answer is to my question...I just want one that WORKS, and I don't want to waste $1,000 on one that doesn't.
3) I'll be living in Virginia at Fort Lee for a few months with my wife so I won't really need the items until spring of 2010. Therefore, I have time to save up $$$, order and receive the exact countermeasure systems I want, and get custom installers lined up, etc. I'd love to find a custom installer in VA or DC who can do all this for me....any tips?
I'm all ears. If you were in my shoes, what would you do?
