Before the release of the new GPS detectors from Escort, my choice of detector would have been easy between the Bel STI and V1. Unfortunately, I had the chance to take a 9500ix for a test drive. I have since returned it upon learning that it is surpassed by the 9500ci, STI-R and V1 on some bands. I must have maximum performance!
Maybe it's my inner geek comming out, but I was super-bummed when I came to find out that my 2 favorite features of the 9500ix were absent from my top pick-the STI-R.
2. Intelligent volume control SWEEEEEET This is potentially a ticket-saving feature, and I am surprised it has not received more attention on these forums.
To me this is a deal breaker with regard to the STI-R. To anyone who has used the Escort detectors, you know what I mean. It is just beyond cool to never have to touch the detector or think about it. Not to say I am a passive driver, I love interfacing with technology, and have always thought road trips where way more fun with a detector on the dash. But it is just such a different experience with the detector quiet. This latest generation of Escorts really represents a major landmark in RD technology.
Crap, just realised I still need to order my ci. Anyone loan me $1600
