I just finished reading Guys of Lidar FAQ on radar guns and want to confirm something based on my first few days of 9500ix ownership. This is my first radar detector.
A radar gun is aimed in a direction like a laser gun, right? So if a LEO is parked facing eastbound on an East/West road with radar gun active and I come up from behind him (I too moving eastbound)...should my detector activate?
The above happened to me and my 9500ix did not utter a warning as I came up over a hill and approached from behind.. However, it started screaming Ka Band alert at full strength as soon as I passed the parked LEO. So I can assume my 360 degree detection works. I'm just wondering if I should have picked up a "light trace" of radar even as I approached from behind (don't know if radar has light traces or bounces like laser).
I guess when it comes down to it...I want to make sure my expectations are in line with reality when judging what my radar detector can do.
My 9500ix is hardwired and mounted just below my rearview mirror. It is set to Highway mode.
