window tint

So my car has Very Very dark window tint on all the sides and the back and a light tint on the windshield (yes i know this is illegal i bought it this way) along with a strip at the top. I was thinking that this cant be good for my radar detector... so ive done some searching and found that dye and ceramic tints are good for radar detectors and metal is no good. Is there any conformation on this? The main question i need to ask is how do i find out what kind of tint i have?!!!!

Metal = bad for radar/laser detection
Regular (non metalic) = can be bad for laser detection

well hopefully ill be picking up a laser jammer soon so im not worried about laser... but how can i tell what i have?!!!!!

i've been leaning toward some huper optik tint (ceramic, i believe?) because it's supposed to NOT interfere with anything (radar, gps, satellite radio)

it's crazy expensive though...got a quote for $400 (with a coupon) on my bmw

yeah i've been reading about that stuff... looks nice. That will be the route I go if need be... But I don't want to replace my perfectly good tint if i don't need to :/

I really need to know how to tell what kind of tint I have!!! That is my main question!!!

The main question i need to ask is how do i find out what kind of tint i have?!!!!

Go park across the street from a store with automatic door openers. Point your RD through the tint at it and check the signal strength. Then roll the window down and check it again. If it goes up, your tint sucks. If it goes down, you're good to go.
