Default My new V1 and a few concerns...

Well yesterday my 1st ever radar :V1: arrived home, I used the suction cups to mount it in the middle of the windshield, now its like 95F here, and I left the car outside for like less thn an hour, when I got back on it and toched the V1, it was burning HOT...

So should I use the visor clip? or leave it there in the windshield? the sun won't damge the V1?, another thing is that if I do keep it in the windshield thn everytime I go out of my car I have to take it out of the suction cups and put it in glove box so it won't get stolen... and If I put it with the visor clip thn I won't have to be taking the radar out everytime I get out of my car, will I loose some detection range? sensitivity?

    Any suggestions?

There is NO good reason to put any detector in the middle of your windshield. It's an antenna. Antennae work better higher. Not to mention the multiple other benefits, like not being seen by cops, not being seen by Klingons who want to use you as a rabbit, not being seen by lowlifes who want to steal it, and not being seen by Mr. Sun, who wants to fry it.

    Definitely visor clip FTW.

Yes. Don't worry so much about how hot your V1 gets and mount your V1 in a different location. Having it on the middle of your windshield:

    1. Makes it completely obvious you have a RD. Pretty soon other drivers will see this and start using you as their RD.

    2. Exposes the V1 to more sunlight. If you are so worried about the V1's temperature, you should mount it high near your RVM behind a non-metallic tint strip.

    3. Thieves can see it. Duting those 15-30 minutes when you go to the store or some other place, thieves can plainly see your V1 if it is on the middle of your windshield.

If you are going to leave your car for more than 45 minutes, then I recommend you take the V1 down if you are parked outside. Using the visor clip won't decrease detection range but then you won't be able to use your visor anymore while driving.

    v1 temperature tolerances:

    Operating: -20°C to +70°C (-4°F to +158°F)
    Storage: -30°C to +85°C (-22°F to +185°F)

I usually let the unit cool down a bit if it was in the sun before I power it up.

I aim one of my AC vents towards the V1. Dunno if I need to.

Just mount it high and don't worry about it. It hit 111 here this summer and I never take mine down and it works fine. I would take it down if you plan on an extended period.
