    Default Cobra detectors work?

I just bought a cobra radar detector from target for $80. I bought it on my way home from NC to CT, so I can not return it because I bought it in Virginia.
But, It doesnt seem to work at all. I have had it for a few weeks now and have passed many cops, and out of 10 cops, it has only detected one.
I know that some of them were using radar, I could see them aiming out their windows as I drove by, so its not like they were just sitting there not using radar, my detector just doesnt pick them up.
I live in CT, and drove to boston, ma yesterday, and passed a few staties. Im wondering if they have some new technology or if my rd is just crap. What do you all think? Are there detectors that actually work? which ones??

If the LEOs were hanging out of their windows they were probably using laser which the Cobra SUPPOSEDLY detects. But in general, Cobras are horrible against most radar. A good detector that is the cheapest that I would trust is either the Wistler pro78 revision C or the Beltronics 955. Your Cobra should really be sold on fleabay and you should pick up one of the ones mentioned above. The Cobra will usually only give you a false sense of security.

If the operators were holding the guns up to their eyes to sight targets then it was laser. If they just point and shoot from arms length then it was radar. If you can see them shooting then even a cobra should be going off unless it's laser and not being pointed at you. Cobra's shortcomings tend to be long range detection, off axis detection and of course durability. In close quarters they should work as well as most detectors.

Can you guy a cobra in VA????? That state has a detector ban.

I suggest you immediately flush the thing down the toilet and read on this site for what's good and what's not. If you spend a lot of time in Virginia or DC you don't have many options with detectors.

YAY! This guy was easy to convert. Usually people try to stand up for the $80 door stop they just bought. You're already light years ahead and I can tell you'll do well here.
