Not forgetting it. Just won't recommend it.

Whistler Pro78 SE performs notably less than a V1, but it's still the next best thing, and the only decent performer in your price range.

ok im about to order one online now it's between the Whistler Pro 78 SE or 690 SE, which one shall i go with? and do any of them have voice alerts?
Both have voice alerts ! 690 has a compass and volt meter. 78 does not
ok but other than that they are pretty much the same? so 690 is better?
are they both the same except the compass and voltage meter? and how does the voltage meter work? does it have to be hard wired?
i went ahead and got the 690 with compass, hope i made the good choice!

I use a 690se and its a great RD. Some may complain about its red display but I never have a problem reading it on a sunny day.

The compass isn't 100% accurate and you have to calibrate it manually by driving in 2 complete circles. I prefer the voltage meter since I can use it to detect a electrical problem while driving such as a failing alternator. The 690se and pro78se have the same antenna so they should preform nearly identical.

From a detection standpoint, the Pro78SE and the XTR690SE should perform the same. Major differences are that the 690 has a red display, compass and voltage meter as has already been reported here.

Personally, I have a Pro87SE and really like it. I like the blue display but I wish it had a compass. The voltage meter is unimportant to me.

I don't like red displays have trouble seeing them - and prefer blue.

But I tink you made a very good choice for your price range.

Whistler are good solid RD with good customer service.

Please let use know how the 690 performs for you.

That appears to be a good price. I have seen them for between $170 and $200.

The most times you recalibrate the compass is when you adjust the position of the detector on the windshield or move it from car to car. Some people calibrate them every month or so to keep them accurate.
