    Default Italian Buddy needs help!!

Hi, my name is Gabriel and I live in Italy.

I've had the chance to know about this radar detectors a couple of years ago, because I spent one year living in Rochester, NY.

Here in Italy they are not very common and it's not easy to find any of them. The main reason is because they are illegal.

Looking throughout the Internet i figured that there are some good ones, and some bad ones.

First thing I'd like to know: Do the RMR radars really crap like i read all around? Sometimes I read so bad about them that i think that there is something that goes deeper than simple "not good product" thinking.

I'm gonna list the Radars i found here in italy, and I'd really appreciate if you could suggest me which one to buy. I do not need i very powerful radar, I just need something that works fine in a city like milan, where there is a lot of traffic and speeds are not very high. There are very few lasers around, therefore I'm not so interested about their capacity to detect lasers. By the way, if you can tell me how they work on laser too, it will be a good plus to add to help me choose.

    here they are:

    RMR-dls315: It's the easiest to find; around 50/60 = 60/70$
    Cobra ESD9210: just afew of them; 60/70 = 70/80$
    Cobra 6060: just a few og them;
    Cobra xrs-9300: Only one

I found another radar that is not "labeled". the seller told me he buys it in Korea from a factory that builds radars too.

I'll link you an ebay object, so that you can take a look at it. I'd like to know if you recognise it and tell me it's brand and how it is too.

    Thank you all!

P.S. if there is any porblem with linking an Ebay auction, let me know and I'll modify the post as soon as I can!

Out of the detectors you listed, in the order of quality (1 being best) they would go:

    1. XRS 9300
    2. ESD 9210
    3. ESD 6060
    4. DLS 315

The 6060 and the 315 are pretty much not worth having. The 9210 and 9300 are marginal at best.

The link to the item on EBAY you posted appears to be for laser only, so that wouldn't be of much help to you.

Even though they are illegal in your country, it might be worthwhile to talk to Roy (forum name RadarRoy, http://www.radarbusters.com ) and see if he'll ship to Italy. Roy offers much better quality products than those you listed.

Ok, thank you! I'll se if i can contact him!

Seen that i can't leave the link here, i'll post asap some pictures!

This is supposed to be a radar detector too, but I'm really not sure about it.

If you find out the brand, we'll be able to make a comparison.

P.S. I read a lot about Bel Express 795 on radartest.com, and it seems very good for the price it is sold at.

The Bel 795 is a good detector from what I hear. Bel detectors, in my experience, are a good value for the money.

One thing that you may need to look at is if Spectre is used in your country. Roy should know. If it is, you need to be particularly careful, because all of the detectors currently on the market can be detected by the Spectre. If you've never heard of the Spectre, i'd suggest doing a quick search on these forums, there's a heap of information about it.

Ciao ragazzo, I live in a jurisdiction that bannes RDs as well, even confiscate them if they catch you with one in your vehicle, but if you're smart (or smarter than them  ) you can easily use one and take all advantages of having an RD as your daily partner... for almost 5 months I've been using a CORDLESS Escort S2, runs on 2 batteries but you can easily buy a home charger and 4 rechargeable batteries and never buy other batteries again, charge them overnight, they usually last up to 6 hrs then you put the other two inside... hide your RD in something very common and, the best, is to keep it mounted low, very low, but still having clear view of the road ahead, I keep mine always on the dash, hidden in "something", no suction cups at all... Roy (RadarRoy in this forum) is very well known in US and Canada, consult with him before investing your money in something like this... I also recommend VEIL for the headlights and LaserShield for the front plate, Veil and LS are only for laser protection, if you worry of conventional radar only you don't need Veil or LS... please read my laser experiences in the "Real Experiences" section of this forum...
Best of luck and happy driving

Well, I see I will have to contact roy!

By the way here is not illegal to have the Radar in the car, but it's illegal to have it turned on. Therefore my problem is that i must be sure that the cops can't prove that i have the radar turned on!

I found an XRS-9600 by cobra!

What about it? If it's a decent one, it could be a good purchase here in italy.

    Let me know

Well, I guess it depends on what types of radar you deal with there. As long as you don't have any tricky photoradar setups like the multanova, it might work. Here's a link to a review on radartest that includes the XRS9700, which is the same as the 9600, except with voice alert.

    http://radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=10030

The 9700 was also included in the Guys of Lidar's test at http://www.guysoflidar.com

Do they use SPECTRE RDDs in their cruisers like their partners in Holland and elswehere :?:  If yes, well... now it's a total different ballgame... you should check the "Spectre and VG2" section of this forum and educate yourself before THEY "educate" you
