I was wondering how far a radar gun could reach. Let's assume its the most range. What is the max range for radar as of today?
Thanks

Thanks. Fast replies rock! You seem to do that a lot!
Glad to help. The other thread came up yesterday so I knew just where to get it. I've seen lots of other guys on here do the same. Its a great forum.
When it comes to radar, its all about "Line of Sight" and the beam width of the transmitting device. Most radar devices...I think, run anywhere from 5 to 17 degrees beam width. Now given that the horizon of the planet itself, yes...the whole Earth, is 11 miles out, radar cannot see past that distance even with a small beam width. Of course, a LEO can't see you 11 miles away either normally unless he's sitting on a hill. What comes to my mind right away is I-15 out of Las Vegas at the Nevada/California border. A CHP up the hill which happens to be 11 miles away, can indeed see someone coming south but painting a radar target on him will be next to impossible due to a few hundred to a few thousand other cars all going the same direction.
