    Arrow Radar Detector for India

    Hi fellow motorists,

These days i have been spotting a lot of these police Interceptors suv's on a lot of open stretches in Bangalore, and I have been told that they are a common sight in a lot many cities nowdays. I personally have been busted by these guys twice

So, I have made up my mind up to get myself a radar detector from states. But I have no idea what frequency radar the police are using back here in India. Are they use radar or laser guns? Any body with info on the same, please throw some light on the topic. One thing I have noticed is that the interceptors always sit with the rear door opened and the guns pointed on the road, could they be using laser guns (my guess is that the laser cant work through glasses)?? Please enlighten me on the same.

I did some research on the net, and have narrowed my options down to Beltronics Vector 955,Whistler Pro 78 SE and Whistler XTR 695 SE. Anybody with some experience on this

Drive safe..and always wear seat belts..they save lives.

I looked around on Google and information on Indian speed enforcement techniques is surprisingly hard to find. It looks like they use Radar so any modern detector should be fine and they are legal in India also. As far as laser is concerned, no detector is really going to help you here other than to inform you you just got busted. Check local laws to see if a you can get away with a jammer.

The ones you mentioned are at the budget end, my personal recommendation is the Beltronics 955 or Pro 78 SE but I would check if they use Ku-band as I'm not 100% certain if they support it.

Do you know if they have speed cameras in your area? You will need a more expensive detector to pick up these signals, the Valentine One is probably the best out there for these low power devices.

Since the street traffic consists mostly of bicycles, moto-rickshaws, pedestrians, and cows, there's probably little need for speed enforcement.

Speaking on account of my Indian friends experiences in India, a roadside exchange of a few hundred rupees (few dollars) and the citation is immediately dismissed.

I agree..I too tried looking for some info on the equipment they are using, but no luck. I guess they are using radar as well, not sure though. And I agree that if they are using LIDAR, then I would rather save my money and better use it to pay the fine... Dont know the law, but m pretty sure that there wouldnt be any regarding jammers as of now, but will eventually be in place as m sure I'm not the only one trying to beat them at their game.

I know. Bel Vector 955 does not have Ku band support. I can get that if I move up the range, in Bel V995 or Bel Rx65. Am not sure if Whistler supports Ku band, so please enlighten me on that. But I would like to know if they are using Ku band before I decide to spend more just to get Ku band. I guess Ku band not used in America anymore, and hence not many products offer that support. Am I right??

I guess not yet..but again not sure.

I agree, but I would rather use technology to my advantage..

And this my friend is completely true. I got stopped once for driving without a license (15 years) when i was visiting. all i had on me was like 40 rupees and he didnt even hesitate to take that. But he never took it by hand, now that would be bribery....so he made me walk to his bike and drop it off inside the carrier......and i was free to go......

If only i could get away with **** like that for less that a dollar.......would my V! be worth it up there

Well, that was 15 years back. You can get away with 50Rs. still in a few places, but not many. And speed tickets is a different game altoghther. In Bangalore, its no talking..if u are busted, you go to the interceptor vehicle (Thats what they call the radar equipped cars), pay a fine of Rs.300 (approx $6), take receipt and walk away. In placed like New Delhi, its much more, I guess around Rs. 1000-2000 ($20-40).

    Hi fellows..

Still waiting for some info on the frequency used in India. Is Ku band really a feature I should be looking at. And if yes, are there any Whistlers out there with Ku band support. I have read that they got the best Ka band detection though. If Ku band is required, then should it be the Beltronics Vector 995 or Bel Rx65. Also, any other options available. I am sorta on a budget, so no V1/Sti Driver for me Thanks.
