    Default LEOs laughing about busting detector users

    [ame="http://forums.officer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1947728"]RADAR Detectors - Police Forums & Law Enforcement Forums @ Officer.com[/ame]

    I always enjoy reading these threads. It's somewhat insightful to hear from the "other side". One guy mentions laser jamming, so they are figuring that out now too.

    I have had several people tell me that their laser detectors never went off when I clocked them (we use Kustom Pro Laser IIIs). I enjoy explaining to them what the detector companies don't want them to know: The detector will only pick up the laser if I point the laser at the detector. This is because the laser is more concentrated and does not spread as much as a radar beam does. Some times I take it further and give a demonstration. (only when it can be done safely) I stand in front of the vehicle (not directly in front) and fire the laser at the bumper then I point and fire at the detector and listen as it goes nuts. Then I enjoy a little internal chuckle as the violator realizes he spent a bunch of money on a useless piece of equipment that only lulled him into a false sense of security
    I enjoy chuckling as I drive by ticket free and you stare at your gun wondering why it took you 5 seconds to get a 55mph reading on a car that you could have sworn was going 85mph....

    "We have radars for use at our department (KR10s) but maybe 1 for every 4 officers so I bought my own. I got a refurbished Kustom Golden Eagle for $1200. Excellent radar unit. Front and rear antennas, same/opposite moving mode, fastest/slowest and stationary modes. Tax write off if you itemize."

    Some of those guys are hard core, I can't believe they love catching speeders so much that they are willing to spend $1200 of their own money. Lucky for me most of the cops around here would rather spend that hard earned cash at Dunkin Donuts.

    *** I have actually found that 1. No officer has EVER stood in front of my bumper and Lidar shot it while I stood still?? 2. My SUV is moving across 6 planes/axis when going down the highway 3. Mount a V-1 low enough (or a 9500Ci) and you'll at least know you've been hit every time!!! I've never been hit and NOT known about it. ***

    Yea well I would enjoy tearing him apart on the witness stand, I highly doubt the PD is calibrating officer owned equipment.

    Edit:

    Not to mention writing it off on taxes would be perjuring himself, I'd love to have this statement available as Defense's Exhibit A.

    Writing off something that's not even an essential need for the DUTIES of your job I don't think would fly well with the IRS

    Some very interesting reading on that forum. Those guys really get a %@#^ on, when they get to give out a ticket. I'm glad I have countermeasures. I'll be checking that forum a little more often. I hope to be the laughing .

    Anything to improve or better your abilities to do your job is acceptable in most cases. I took a CDL class for my driving job and it was tax deductible.

    I highly doubt a Radar gun that was not department issued and doesn't comply with department standards nor was requested by the department is going to fly. The way I see it, and I'm sure the IRS would to, is that that gun was bought for hobby, not employment. A CDL course on the other hand is something a truck driving company would want you to take.

    Of course, for every top-end RD user those LEOs manage to bag and then brag about on their forum, 25 more top-end RD/LJ users score saves against those same LEOs and then brag about them here!

    They like getting the RD users for the bragging rights. Even though they can run C/O and nail many many more who don't have RDs, or have Crapras which are about as useful as not having an RD.
    If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!
