Default Where do all the unathorized detectors come from?

Im in the market and waiting on what the brandX brings to the table. I had been ready to pull the trigger on an X65. I have been looking around though and notice a bunch of sites selling detectors that I believe are not authorized retailers. I dont know because bel still hasnt returned my email with a list of authorized retailers but Im assuming by the really big price drop over places that I know to be authorized that they are not. At any rate where are all these detectors coming from? I read some, particulary on ebay, can be stolen but were talking about a lot detectors. Some of these have to be bought from a legit source?

Also allot of the Ebay units are factory seconds/returns that they send off to Mexico and South America. They have the serial numbers. They then sell these as new in the border towns at around $175.00.

That is exactly what many of the E-Bay dealers are doing.

What happens next, is when these units are sold outside the USA, someone gets hold of them and brings them back into the US.

One of the largest remanufacturing plants in the USA is in Florida. I had someone call me a year ago offering to sell me all kinds of detectors by the truck load on pennies on the dollar. I took the information and reported it to the manufactures.

Unless you live in some parts of Canada where RDs are illegal or VA and DC, all BestBuy, CircuitCity, RadioShack, Target stores, carry all or most of the RDs... also Roy (RadarRoy in this forum) is 100% specialized in RDs and all other accessories...

Honestly, I've never seen anything more advanced than a midrange Crapra at Target. If others have, please let me know.

I've noticed the exact same thing. And I'm not talking about ebay as much as "other" on-line retailers who offer somewhat ridiculously low prices. It seems that some places which appear to be very reputable (professional looking web-site, with plenty of info, 800 numbers and extensions for individual reps, physical addresses, etc.) that have very low prices compared to what the "authorized" dealers seem to sell them for (full retail). So I've often wondered the exact same thing, crabman....

I just mentioned a large range of places where you can find RDs, that's based on my many road trips in US... I like going in stores as well When I decided buying one, all I wanted was the latest CORDLESS model, I knew nothing about RDs, so I went to some Circuit City stores, they did not carry cordless but they sent me to BestBuy where I found the S2 (US$318) and which I bought it from Billings, MT, no sales tax... what I'm saying is that there are lots of places out there where you can find lots of RDs, depending of your particular preferences and financial resources...

Bel and Escort does try to stop them
They have a company that makes "blind" purchases to identify the company selling the units and then try to find out where they are coming from.

They have run into problems where there is no serial number, or the tag for the serial number is counterfit.

I've been told by one distributor, that there was group taken off in Texas a couple months ago
