    Default Opinions Please

I'm going to be ordering an RD sometime today or tomorrow. Laser is not a big concern for me in my area but I/O is fairly common.

I've been reading A LOT the last few days but I think im just going in circles. Right now I'm considering the Whistler Pro 78SE paired with a CB for when I go on the interstate, which isn't too often.

I have also been looking at the Bel RX65, but I've read a lot of mixed reviews.

    Thanks,
    John

Laser on a radar detector won't help you. You'll need a jammer to protect you.
    Whats your budget?

did you read the guyoflidar.com 2009 test results for radar detectors?

If you are wiling to spend $300 for the RX65, you may want to strongly consider the V1 for $399.

$300 is the most I am going to spend. And I am not concerned with Laser. I have read all the test's, reviews, watched the videos, etc. Like I said my head is pretty much going in circles.

The reason I was looking in the 200 and under range is so I could also get a CB for interstate traveling.

I would go with the Pro 78SE if you are concerned with I/O and QT. Whistler is the second best radar detector brand available against I/O and QT.

    Thanks Snoopy.
I/O is my main concern. Will do a bit more research on the others, but I will be ordering something this afternoon.

My philosophy is to do things right the first time. Get the V1. I can't tell you how many times I have seen the V1's Arrows and sensitivity make the difference.

Quick example. Last week I was traveling on the freeway when I received an alert on KA with the arrow pointing ahead and 1 bogey. I passed the undercover LEO who was traveling towards me at which point the arrow pointed to the side and then behind. The V1 then CONTINUES to alert but again showing 1 bogey and arrow pointing ahead. Sure enough there is another LEO in the median targeting my side of the freeway.

With any other detector this would have looked like the same alert as it was continuous. Without the Arrows I would have not known there was more than one LEO.

I just can't pay for a V1 right now, it would be several months before I could. I don't speed much, I know my town and where most the officers hide. If I'm speeding it's usually no more than 10 over.

I have not yet had a speeding ticket, and have never used an RD. I just want to know if someones watching me.

SnoopyC4 is right. If you're not going to get a V1, then the Pro 78SE is probably the way to go for you. It certainly has it's shortcomings. It's noisy and it gives confusing alerts. But it's sensitivity is average, and it's responsiveness is well above average, which is a better combination than offered by any Escort detector.

Then I agree. Go with the high end Whistler. I have the xTR695 in my wife's car and she uses it just like you want to. To see when she is being monitored. Although, now she wants a V1.
