Thats my point though, if a leo is in the area its best not to speed...ramp up can't be an accurate gauge of distance because of deflection of the signal due to traffic, angle of axis, and weather.
You're right. There isn't a ramp up issue on the 9500ix.

Ramp up will be slightly affected by the conditions around you but it won't be affected to the point where it is useless; it is still pretty accurate. As the RU of your RD increases, you KNOW the LEO is getting closer. That fact is not changed by the conditions around you. A RD with poor RU many go off at full blast for two minutes straight and you would have no idea whether the LEO is right on top of you or farther up the road.
Very funny Clay.
Yes, you can turn off auto learn on the 9500ix but the two detectors are completely different under 20 mph with audio alerts.
The 9500ix will give just two beeps then go quite when your under 20mph and the audio does not come back on until you exceed 20mph. If your hung up at a redlight and in spec mode at night you have no idea if the source is stationary, coming towards you or moving away because you have no audio.
The 9500i operates like any other detector. Even if you have auto-mute set the audio does not shut down completely if your not moving or under 20mph unless you manually mute the alert.
