    Default New to this all....

Hey, i own a black 2005 Dodge ram Rumblebee, and my dad just handed me down his old radar detector its an escort 4600 ...old school...but it works pretty good....ive noticed it picks up X and K radar around some buildings, supermarkets, ect. and i know its because of the automatic doors and such. But i noticed that when there is an actual cop around i pick up Ka radar, and so thats how ive noticed lately....

Was wondering is there a list of all the frequencies, and what they are used for ect. so i can familiarize myself with them? looking into getting an escort 8500 X50 soon, which i hear is the best, according to radar roy himself also...but i have a few friends who have the valentine and they say its the best....so right now i am in the middle between escort and valentine....?...any help would appreciated, hope to learn alot more about this stuff

There is no "the best" but only what works best for you.

Well welcome to the site. youve encountered all the bands. theres only X,K, and Ka. and Laser. X- is usually always false, unless you live in NJ or Indiana(from what i hear its still there). K and Ka are the main bands today. and if you get laser then your toast anyway unless you have some Laser countermeasures i.e. jammer, Veil, Lasershield. just search around the site, youll learn all you need to know  . BTW nice truck, ive always been a dodge person. i used to have a 1989 Ramcharger, sturdiest truck ever.

welcome to the forum..... have a look on the forum and you will see posts about radar, and laser etc...

and what frequencies they use, k and ka band incar radar and handheld use theses bands, x band is also used in some older radars..

photo radar uses k and ka bands, but are harder to detect than normal radar for a few reasons,

it faces away so you only pick up reflections.

    its low powered

    Phoenix_3737,

In my opinion, the best radar detectors currently available are the Beltronics RX65 and the Valentine 1. I suggest you look at these 2. If you have the time and the money, buy both keep the one you like better. Just make sure you return the other before 30 days is up. Also, some new detectors should be coming out soon.

welcome to the board! the only known frequencies are for ka band guns, although they are not set in stone. some users here have reported some being as much as +/-100mhz off so i would NOT disregard any alert from your RD as a false, especially if it is close to one of those frequencies. i've seen lots of k band falses that are on the same frequency as 2 LEOs and 4 speed signs i've seen, so with k band, you have to watch out. i know lots of cops still use k band radar around my area, so i'd watch out when you get a k alert. you never know when a cop could be hiding by a usual false spot.

there isn't really a "best" detector as someone said earlier, but people do have their favorites. if you would like a military style, old school detector that has some really nice features like the arrows and bogey counter along with the remote display option, go for the V1. it won't display any frequencies, but i can no longer count on my fingers and toes how many times the arrows would have greatly aided me in determining where an alert was coming from. also going past the normal places where there are multiple false alerts, the bogey counter would help me every single day. if you like more user friendly with more options and features, the x50 is a great detector and so are the bel rx-65 and v995. i personally own the bel v995 right now, and it has provided more than enough detection in all the circumstances i've been in. i wish i would have forked out the extra 30 bucks for the x50 tho... just becuase of the blue display! i've heard the newest version of the rx-65 is really good with POP filtering. the x50 is extremely good with laser, i've seen some videos from Outrun (http://www.jasonsvideoproductions.co...mmervideos.htm) in which he has got long laser alerts with his x50 and blinder. the v1 is superior when it comes to laser detection. in the right circumstances, it can actually pick up the scatter after the laser beam hits the windshield of the car in front of you. in a truck, you have a lot of possible laser reflectivity so i would get a jammer like a blinder m-40 or the AL6 (with two heads) when it comes out, along with lasershield and veil. ideally, i would wait for the AL6 and get two heads, that would most likely give you JTG almost all the time. if laser isnt a big threat in your area, then i would worry about getting a good detector first and save your money for a jammer later. what state do you live in? laser jammers are illegal in a few states that i know of...but people still use them

anyway, here are the ka frequencies
    34.700 - Stalker
    35.500 - Kustum Signals/Decatur
and the dreaded 33.800 - MPH
