What if RD's could simply talk

...to each other. I got to thinking this when one day...

I am driving down the NYS thru-way (in my car) with my 8500 mounted high, and a guy (well cut, business man like) in a nice car new (black GTO) starts to pass me (prolly at 78ish)..im hovering around 75ish....with no rabbit so I was staying at 10 over (pretty safe on the NYS Thru-way...anyone who travels it a lot knows what I mean) and look at his windshield...sure enough looks like nice V1 about 2-4inches under 'RVM'.

Well ok.....I didnt know off the bat what it was thanks inpart to the V1's distinct shape and overall look I knew what it was when I got a better look, as he passed me he looked over and must have seen my RD and nodded...so he gets infront of me and I am like wtf...im getting a better look at this RD....so I go up next to him and have my passenger write a message in marker on a piece of paper with a marker (college notebooks/writing untensils all over the place) and say...

"Nice V1...cell?"
Him: nods head yes
I tell my passenger to give him my cell on paper
He calls it and we start talking....turns out he has exactly what I thought...an V1 (not sure what 'version'), and I have my 8500 non-x50, so since he has the superior detector for NYS Troopers (KA/Laser) we decided he sits up front as the lead car and I would follow, he knew what a 'Highway Hero' was and I was like whoa alright this is gonna be great so...it took us about 8-10minutes of talkin on the cell phone before we decided on a good HH...who was cruising at about 88-90MPH. We let him get away from us. Probably to a distance of a little less then a quarter mile, prolly a 1/5th without being technical...and we just cruised behind this HH for about 40miles until the guy had to pull off an exit. I didnt have a hands free set (he did) so when we was just cruising I gave the phone to my passenger and the guy would say what alerts he was getting on his V1, and my passeneger would relay what she saw on the 8500. We didnt go through any speed traps...2 Troopers did pass us the opposite way with constant on KA, so we slowed down accordingly.....aboout 3/4mile ahead of time....the HH did a nice little brake job when he finally saw the trooper


Anycase I think it would be cool if RD's (yes of the same company.... like all high end Belscorts V1's wont wanna talk to x50's) could talk to each other out on the highway. So you could turn on the option 'talk' when going down the highway so the RDs would have low power outputs, so that when someone was coming say within 50ft of you, it would say 'TALK' with a very non-urgent tone, so both of you could know to look for a fellow RD carrier of HQ and get some kind of 'caravan' going for maximum protection. I mean a row of:

X50, RX65, 8500 (nonx50), 995 would be hot (however obviously to overhaul these would be implausible....im saying on all new High-end units (the models to replace these) equip this feature.)


I know its a fantasy because the FCC would throw a tantrum with all the extra signals all over due to this feature.

I feel that the FCC would be the biggest obsticle, because a very small section of an RD could handle this. I dont think that rd's would even grow much over 10%(if that) in size to handle a LP feature such as described. I mean heck I get a few cobras that tell me they are around me (leaky leaky leaky)....when I dont want to know it, why cant a detector I want to know is around me tell me its there.


AHHHHH just an idea....maybe not original but I would like to see your thoughts on this, or other cool ideas techs should look at for RD's

sounds like an awesome experience. i see a few people around my area with x50's (they are sold at best buy) and usually look over but they never look back - haha

I get a 20mile warning of speed traps on my CB nothing beats that

Especially on the NYS thruway's trukers lover to inform their fellow truckers...

And my BEL 995 is the saving grace if i forget what mile marker i am at

i'm going to have to get me one of those CB's for my next road trip! looks like that is one of the best ways to get an early warning

Yeah you can't beat having a cb. You can sometimes get like a 100 mile warning. So if they say mile marker 121 just slow down maybe 5 miles before and after if you have not had an update in a while.

I came up with a similar idea. Maybe through some sort of WiFi network. Any detector that picks up an alert could relay it to other detectors within say, 1/4 mile.

It would be great for laser and instant-on assaults, but not so good in false-happy areas. There would have to be some sort of filtering, such as only transmiting laser, instant-on and POP alerts for example.

I think my V1 can pick up X band in Atlanta as it is.

I would think they would send/receive GPS info along with the alert, so that your detector can ignore or delay alerts that aren't relevant in your location. Such as alerts in the next town over, or even a nearby alert that you're heading away from.

ya man cb radios are super!!! when you hook up a good a very good antenna to it tho.
