    Default Radar gun locator

Maybe this was mentioned before - I'm sure it has.

So for decades the military has had the technology in aircraft to locate ground based radar sites and blow them to smithereens. I recall the Gulf War where Iraq was paranoid to turn on their radar, because within minutes it would be bombed.

So I'm wondering why we don't have a portable radar transmission locator, even a crude one that just shows distance from transmitter or something.

Didn't you hear? The pilots in the Gulf War had V1s in their jets. When Iraq used radar, the V1 arrows would lead them right to it.

    J/K...

The radar tech used in fighter jets is far more advanced, and expensive than what you'd find in a radar detector. I doubt very many people would want to spend $250K for a radar gun locator that saves them from a $200 ticket.

When you're moving that fast, you only need a single receiver to triangulate a position in many cases (and even the V1 doesn't do that). Plus if there are multiple aircraft and their systems talk to each other its easy to get extremely accurate triangulation.

I wonder how hard it would be to get just distance. That would be a great addition. ( Just dreaming here, but you never know! )

Besides, don't the missiles themselves home on the source of the RADAR signal? Basically all you need to do is fire them off in the general direction of the RADAR source and the missile does the rest.

That's what I thought. Also, I remember hearing stories that the Iraqis were deathly afraid to turn on their radar, because they knew almost as soon as they did, a missile would be incoming. So, from what I understand, it's no different than us. If the radar is off, it can't be detected.

It would be cool if guys of lidar got their hands on one of these military grade detectors to compare to consumer radar detectors.

All I want is something that can tell me where the police cars are instead of their radar. Life would be so much easier.

Yes , buy a used ARM
