I know everyone posts this same thread. I assure you I have done a lot of reading before posting. My needs are very specific; I am hoping that very specific answers are available. Thanks in advance to anyone with the time to respond.
For work reasons, I now commute to New Jersey from MD suburbs once a week, a 500 mile round trip, made over two days, every week for a year. For reasons that should be obvious, I am hesitant to post too many details as I am sure this is read by LEO.
Roads involved are Rt 15 Md, a little I-81 NJ, a bunch of I-78 NJ.
The only thing I need out of my countermeasures setup is the best possible chances for not getting pulled over on the highway, driving alone, at hours when rabbits - and for that matter other cars - are simply not present. I drive an extremely small convertible with a very small forward facing profile.
Right now I am running a loaned V1 3.619 hardwired with remote display and Trapster on iPhone hardwired into audio system. I have yet to purchase any countermeasures.
Except for this commute I don't speed, and I don't need city countermeasures, or stealth countermeasures, I don't drive in any states where detectors or jammers are illegal. MD has VERY strict anti-front-plate cover laws thought. What I need is to avoid a $3000 ticket and license suspension in the middle of the night. So far I have had -zero- LEO contact. And it is making me nervous. I know it's out there.
Like an idiot, , I have done what everyone does when they get a RD: driving very fast thinking it will protect me. Having read here, I now know that I am a laser or I/O bust waiting to happen. For now I am slowing down, and planning.
I have read the GOL analysis very closely. It looks, as someone with no experience, like the V-1 3.872 Ka-Guard-Off is clearly the best in the world. Having driven with "Ka Sensitivity On" and "Ka Guard Off" on my V-1, I know that this test is a joke. The V-1 alerts every 2-3 minutes on average on empty highways. It is worse than useless in this setup. By contrast, running in "A" on factory, I have basically no alerts other than EZPass laser and K band "Your Speed Is" signs.
By the way, has anyone else ever gone past one of these signs at 100mph? They blink "00". Pretty funny. Wish it worked on police laser.
Anyway, if you throw the V-1 Ka-Guard-Off results out (and you should), then the Sti-R starts to look competitive. and I really like the stealth hardwire option. Also my very small, convertible car makes any type of high windshield mount an extremely difficult option. I am running the V-1 suctioned, remote display, right of the mirror.
So here's what I'm thinking as my setup options. All input appreciated.
- Passive: Veil headlights, Black Bra on front end, cover front plate with bra (I will gladly pay a $60 no front plate ticket as many times as required. Beats the $500/court they are assessing for anti-laser covers). I will put the bra on for this trip only.
- Detection: V-1, Sti-R, 9500ci
- Jamming: LI Dual (new), or 9500ci
My big problem with the 9500ci is the total lack of test results. GoL never got a crack at it. What if its jamming sucks, what if its detection sucks? And I can't independently upgrade either capability! On the other hand... single install.
I'm leaning towards LI Dual with detector integration into either the Sti-R or a new V1. But I haven't bought anything yet.
I apologize for this extremely long post; hopefully you guys see why I made my own top-level thread.
Also very interested in doing a meet-up with anyone who owns "measures" and doing some JTG benchmarking, once my install is done. Also interested in doing a Veil application day if there are airbrush experts about. I can get to anywhere in eastern MD, NoVa, the district.
Thanks in advance!!! Great forum.
Edit: PS: Also I am a HAM, I have a 2 meter handheld, wondering if there's anything I should be scanning.
