WARNING!!! Florida Apparently Issuing Tickets for Radar Detectors Mounted on Windshield (12/06/2009) - Florida may actually be starting to make use of an old windshield law previously ignored. I'm going crazy trying to find ANY mention of people previously complaining about being hit with tickets for having radar detectors mounted on windshields in Florida, and I can't seem to find anything. (Can anyone do me a favor and see if things like WestLaw have any mention of this in the past?) But I just got a complaint from someone who advises that they just got a ticket for $116 for having a radar detector mounted inappropriately on their windshield. While this could just be a "local" thing, I'm going to err on the side of caution and warn everyone to stay on the safe side and find some way to mount your detectors here in Florida which does NOT make use of the windshield. The law being used is
316.2952.
Here's the law in it's entirety.
This law could affect everybody: ham radio operators, storm spotters, storm chasers, etc., and would include anything mounted on the windshield: RADAR-detectors, GPS units, (cameras?), or anything attached to the windshield.
